2017 E300
iphone 6s SMS

Hello there! We took delivery of a new 2017 black/black E300 P2, and a GLC300. Happy happy. Got rid of the '13ML, and '14GLK, doubtful will miss either of them, although they were GREAT vehicles. I still miss my 07 E63... But I digress...

Currently at day 6, I am slowly getting more comfortable with the telematics system. I am slightly missing my keypad, I used that darn thing all the time for satellite radio and when dialing into conference calls. I will soon assimilate. I am realizing that voice is def the way to go.

My current question lies with the iphone integration to the vehicle. I searched the forum and didn't find anyone with the same problems with the new system.. I am able to see an sms/text when it arrives, even have the car read it to me. What I am not able to do is reply. Am I missing something? She tells me that option not supported. I see that today iOS update 10.1.1 was released, so I am updating the phone now. I will try shortly and update this thread if it changes.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated! Cheers!!

You need to go into the iPhone...settings...bluetooth and select the i button and turn on Show Notifications. This will push notifications to the car.

I have good news and bad news. The good news the solution may lie in the MB voice control. The bad news is I haven't tested it out. After considerable effort, time, and money, I got my hands on a Voice Control System manual. Page 18, the end of the Telephone section, says you press the voice button, say "reply to message". I guess you get a prompt to speak your reply, then press it again and say "send message". Of course it can't be that easy. It'll be awhile before I can test it for a number of reasons no one wants to know. BTW the manual is 49 pages long! I turned the Internet upside down trying to find a downloadable copy. Finally bought one off eBay for $25.00 all in. If this works, it'll be worth the cost.

You can always use Siri for that. If you iPhone is connected via Bluetooth you can hold the voice command button for ~2 seconds or longer and you can ask sisri to read your messages, once Siri read the message she will ask if you want to respond, you say simply yes and then tell the message and confirm to Siri to send it after you finished.....
