Difference in Left/Right Mirror housings

I just noticed that the driver's side outside mirror on My E300W4 P3 is 2" deeper than that on the passenger side. When I fold the mirrors, the right side mirror face is almost parallel to the side glass while the driver's side mirror only gets to about 60 degrees. I assume that this is "normal", but why the difference left vs right? Why the greater depth? More adjustment range? Heater?

Electronics or sensors? I wonder if the RHD vehicles have a the larger housing on the right.
