I allready ordered an E 43 so the answer should be obvious The 550 is an old design. If you are seriously considering the bimmer wait for the new model.

Performancewise, I think the highest performing is theS6 but they are all fairly close. Tech and interiorwise the E 43 is hands down the best.

This is the 2018 m550i.... isn't this is the new model?
How about the new Porsche Panamara. They look killer. 2017's just hitting showrooms. I would hope the new BMW interior improves over their *** prior ones. Regards. Ned.

I agree they look good finally ... but priciest of the bunch... many engine options is nice
The 2018 G30 in M550ix form should arrive late in 2017. The end of production for the 2017 G30 models is June 2017. It will be a very short model year since the G30's won't be introduced in North America until next week in Detroit.

The Panamara S all wheel drive hits first, a turbo v6 with 440hp. $100,000 list but as we all know Porsche destroys you on options. It's only a 4 seater as well which I just don't get at all, silly. I hate to admit it, but it seems with no e400 option, the e43 might make the most sense right now for the performance mid size luxury cruiser with Audi and BMW a year behind Mercedes on model updates. Regards. Ned.

No mater what else is out there right now, I agree this is the most logical conclusion (IMHO the same applies to the whole MB line, model for model).
lol yes and I priced out a touring v6 accord and keep asking myself why we need the 550i lol
Yep, we pull up to that red light with our racing red Accord and give a subtle glance to the car in the next lane and gun it on green. Oh yeah! Regards. Ned.
I have owned / driven a 2008 BMW 550i Sport for nine years and it's been a great car. Comfortable, fast, fun to drive and reliable. I just traded it in for an E300.

this is great to hear, is it hard to lose power with the e300? Or does the tech make up for it

Another posted spoke of trading in his e550 for the new e300 and not really missing the power due to the all around greatness of the e300. Are you feeling the same way. Regards. Ned.
The BMW M550xi looks fine Peter. Classic BMW styling. The S6 is fine too for that matter. I've seen a E43 up close and the exterior just looks a bit too bland to me. Some folks like the look though, so that is just a matter of personal taste. Interior of the E43 looks great though. Very S Class like in many aspects.
However for someone who loves the smooth, effortless power of a V8, especially after driving an AMG or any other V8 for a long time, the current engine choice in the E43 might be a constant disappointment. Something to consider. Maybe the supposed E50 might be a netter alternative, if you can wait that long.

If you havent driven the 3.0 biturbo I strongly recommend you do so. Many v8s of old pale in comparison, plus it revs marvelously. Of course It cant compare to a modern turbo V8 but thats what the real AMG is for! Enginewise this engine apple to apple comparison should be the 535 not the 550.
The new Bimmer G30 is a 540i. The 535i moniker is retired.
My daily driver is an E60 2008 535i. It is very smooth and revs easily right up to the red line. With a chip it will push out an extra 100 ponies.
