There is another 32% of content with an unspecified foreign origin.
It seems that much of the electronics and labor intensive interior parts are sourced from Asia.

I wouldn't be surprised if you are right. Also partly explains why most of the quality bugaboos are electronic too. That said, German electronic systems have never shone for their reliability. Maybe they should outsource them to Japan since Toyota and Honda electronics are bullet proof. In 35 years and more than a dozen cars I've never had a single electrical problem with Japanese cars. German and American cars have been a completely different story, particularly German ones.

IMO, there are a few facts that contradict in the above statement.
  1. Bad designs and products can be found in other places as well. For example, read up about Ford Edsel, Pinto, Bronco (80s) and the word "fiasco" would be the perfect description for these products.
  2. Consumers gobble up Chinese products and quality. Amazon and Walmart are thriving. Customers beat down their doors on Black Friday sales. In the meanwhile, Macy and Sears are shutting down stores. The legendary Craftsman brand is being sold off. To think of it, I hardly see the E300 on the road 6 months after its introduction.
  3. I share your discontent. To fix the issue, we need to see the big picture and the root cause of the problem. A blanket statement is not helping in term of providing clarification nor solution.

The Italian takes the top honor in this category.
My MBapp and navigation systems are going bonker. I just made another service appointment with the dealer. It's the 6th one in 6 months. The SA is getting tired of my visits.

Japan doesn't get off the hook that easily. I've owned 2 Toyotas purchased new. One was OK and the other was a disaster with electrical problems and engine problems. The Toyota branded cars have been the least reliable I've ever owned.

I purchased a '16 Hyundai Elantra GT as a gift a year ago. The recipient has reported no problems after 30k miles.

Not all Chinese products are poorly made. How many people on this forum have Apple products? There is a Audio company based in California that is actually Chinese called Oppo Digital. They make some of the finest Audiophile Blu Ray players and DACs. .

Also from "Asia" are Nikon cameras, Sony televisions, and, oh yeah, most cellphones. How much of the asian-sourced electronic problems are German software engineer related? Not sure.

I've owned a bunch of Mercedes, and never had a problem. Fingers crossed that I have a Galaxy Edge and not a Galaxy Note.
