E class W213 manufacturing factories!!

actually i was really shocked that the new e class (w213) is manufactured in china and india along with a factory in Germany! Actually after placing my order im really afraid from my car to be indian or chinese! Do you think that the one which was manufactured im these factories differs than the ones of germany??
And i have read that all the cars is written on it "MADE IN GERMANY" even if they are not manufactured there. How can I know the real manufacturing factory as im sure the dealer wont give me the correct info if jt was manufactured in china or India! Thank you

(no hate and full respect for china and India, but truth has to be said germans should be better as i will be paying 100,000$)

I would be surprised if any e class for export to US is not built in Germany. It is possible that ones made in India or China are for the local markets. The origin of manufacture would come with the vehicle, the dealership would know from vehicle I'd number. Regards. Ned.

The Asian built cars are for that market only. I wish they would export the "L" version of the E Class with enhanced rear seat leg room to the US. The E Class in China is typically chauffeur driven.

Indeed some US-market Mercedes are indeed NOT made in Germany. I've seen previous-generation C-Classes which were made in South Africa, and of course, the current C is made in the USA in Alabama(?).

Currently, the US-spec E-Classes are made in Sindelfingen, Germany and I've not seen anything to indicate that this is going to change anytime soon.

I'm with ua549 -- I'd love to see a long-wheelbase E-Class in the USA. This would likely cannibalize S-Class sales, which is why we'll probably never see it here.

The ml/gle class is also made in Alabama. Not sure about the glc. Personally, no interest in long wheel base e class, I think it to be the perfect size for a 5 person luxury sedan. I'd be more interested perhaps in what a short wheel base s class would be like, maybe around 200 inches long or so. I was considering an Audi s8 which is on the short wheelbase platform of the a8, 203 inches versus 209. At the end of the day just decided that the additional length and especially width of the s8 made it tougher to maneuver in the crowded areas where I live, especially dealing with parking lots. How's that for going off topic, feel like the idiot from Woody Allen's Bananas. Regards. Ned.

All e class w213 for the US Market are being made in Germany. India and China are for local market only. You can check your Vin and tell what factory your car came out of. 11th digit tells factory. A thru E Sindelfingen, F thru H Bremen, J Rastatt, R east London SA. USA made vehicles Vins start with a 4 or a 5 rather than WDD or WDC. by the way GLC is made in Bremen. They are also going to be made by Valmet in Finland starting this year. I just drove a 2017 c class as a loaner that was made in SA rather than Alabama. There was also a class on the showroom floor made in SA.

I'm not sure if the Graz plant still assembles the 4Matic. W213 4Matic owners please check your vin for 'X' and post back.

VID is a mistake, it should be VIN

VIN stands for Vehicle Identification Number, I believe the first three or four letters denote the country of manufacture. If your VIN starts with: WDDZ your car is made in Germany. Does it make a difference where your car is made, I wouldn't put my life on the line in some tin can made in China no matter what company made it, but that's a question for you to decide.

Not Made in Graz

I have a W213 4matic and there is no "X" in the VIN number. I know for a fact that the 9 speed transmission is made in Germany by ZF.

4matic made in Graz, NOT!

If you are talking about the transmission, it is not made in Graz, if you are talking about the physical parts that make up the 4matic system than you might be right, so, are you referring to the transmission or the parts that make up the drive system itself.

Offshore factories

My wife's 2010 C300 was made in Durbin, South Africa. Possibly the most reliable, well built Benz out of the four she has had. Go figure.

I'd relax a bit on the thought of a Chinese made car. Quoting myself from the 1970's, you must realize, "if you fill a room with 100 geniuses, 30 of them will be Chinese." And, they are coming on strong.

WDD/WDB/WDC means Daimler Germany but your car may still be assembled outside Germany with this code. The C class I drove as a loaner was made in South Africa. It's ViN started with WDD. The factory code is the 11th digit of the vIn. CLAs made in Hungary are WDD. I do not know the code for the factory in Hungary. G wagons are WDC. They are made in Austria with 11 digit X. This car had had an R for SA. It also had a label Made in South Africa on the B pillar. All of the W213 e classes have an A for 11 digit indicating Sindelfingen as the place of manufacture including 4matics

Geniuses, it's all in the numbers

Your statement is only partially correct. Since China has a population of 1,375,000,000 than by default 30% of a roomful of garbage men will also be Chinese so your statement while true doesn't mean much. The Asian mentality with Japan being about the only exception is that of making money, money and more money, whether the product is safe or not or meets the standards that are suppose to be inherent in the way the product is made is very secondary to them and if you've ever done business over in China (which I have) you quickly come to realize you are dealing with a very different mindset than that of the Western mentality that we are used to.
Any short cut is acceptable as long as it puts dollars in their pocket which is why MB makes a long wheel base E Class car for the Chinese market only. If you've ever see one or been driven in one, it's noticeable longer with no getup to speak off (although I wasn't driving it) and it looks very silly as the body doesn't lend itself to being stretched, absolutely no eye appeal but MB wants to be the biggest car maker in the world, hence, they now make a model for every budget, literally.

if your car comes with sweet and sour pork or chicken curry, then ill start worrying.

ive read about this a long time ago. like everyone mentioned. its for the local market. i reckon to save money on labor and transport cost. although youll be surprised that a lot of Asian MBs are still made in Germany.

even so, im sure quality is still up to Mb standards.

Absolutely correct!
China has the technology and a disciplined labor force to manufacture well put together products that meet the designers' standards. Creating great products is entirely another matter. It took the Japanese decades to reach the plateau - And thus far, only a single brand gets a toe inside the door. The Korean is trying to shorten the time span by hiring the best from Europe, and Germany specifically.

Caveat Emptor
China is not Japan. Though the Japanese were well known for producing very good reliable inexpensive products due to their Keiretsu, that has not been true with China. China has been renowned by their fly by night, seat of the pants manufacturing companies that disappear into thin air as fast as they appear. China is known for its lax quality control and poor workmanship. Regarding Chinese intelligence or technologic prowess all you have to consider is that the decades of the cultural revolution they essentially destroyed their entire educational system not to mention their best and brightest people. This put them decades behind the engineering and R&D compared to the rest of the world. Case in point the only aircraft carrier they have was a rusty soviet union era one that they refurbished, furthermore, all their aircraft designs are western derivatives, plus all their aircraft engines are old Russian stuff too. All their building prowess is based on legions of cheap labor climbing on scaffolding made of bamboo and where the use of substandard materials is rampant. Graft, corruption, and shoddy workmanship are hallmarks of Chinese products. In Chinese manufacturing all that is important is making a buck, quality, craftsmanship and innovation or of secondary or lesser importance. The few industries in china that have made world class products like Foxconn are run like army camps where everything is controlled to the last little detail by foreign "masters".
