New Recall coming?
I was talking with my SA today and she informed me that there was a pending recall for the E300 in my VIN number range. I believe that this a for an SCL which could melt and ignite under certain conditions. Anyone know more about this? My car had a production date of October 8.
Update: Is this the one?
Recall Campaign 2017020021 FEB17 – 2017 213, 117, 156, 205, 253 starting current limiter (SCL) could be overloaded worst case scenario components can melt and ignite, dealer will replace SCL. Approximately 24030 vehicles affected.

Mine was built in August 2016. I plugged the VIN into this website recall checker:
https://www.mbusa.com/mercedes/recall
There was no recall current today on mine.

there are actually 3 separate recalls on the E. it's unlikely any VIN would have all 3, but all will eventually have the starting current limiter recall. notifications will be sent in july. there's also an occupant classification system recall along with a pelvic airbag recall.

We've started to get them on other platforms, it doesn't just effect the 213 but also the 205, 117/156 and I believe the 253.
We've had two 205s come in that caught fire, with a driver hitting a puddle and locking the engine, then trying to re-start, and the car just keeps trying. One caught fire in transit, when it left the owner it was fine, when it got to us it was all burned up. I'm glad there is a fix for it.

We've done them, the parts are available, maybe have to be ordered. How-to? It's two bolts, and no more work than replacing a battery terminal. Pays 0.3 hours, hardly worth the effort for a tech, like most recalls.

Daimler AG said it will recall one million newer-model Mercedes-Benz vehicles worldwide due to the risk of fire, after 51 fires were reported.
The German company said no injuries or deaths were reported relating to the vehicles that it will begin recalling in the U.S. market in July when parts become available.
A fix has been implemented in the production of new vehicles and vehicles on dealers lots will be fixed before they are sold, the company said. The issue relates to a potentially faulty fuse.
"Any affected vehicles in inventory will not be sold until they can be outfitted with the additional fuse," said a Mercedes-Benz spokesman.
Of the million vehicles to be recalled, 307,629 are in the United States, which is 40,000 units less than Mercedes-Benz reported to U.S. regulators.
The company did not immediately have a breakdown of where vehicles will be recalled outside of the United States.
The United States is among the three biggest markets for Mercedes-Benz, the others being China and Germany.
Of the 51 fires, 30 were reported in the U.S. market, a Mercedes-Benz U.S. spokesman said.
The recall affects newer models, including those from the 2017 model year.
Mercedes-Benz and Daimler said it would begin to notify its U.S. customers late in March. It didn't say when owners in other markets would be notified.

It seems to be a rare issue and not one where your.vehicle would spontaneouy combust. The fact that the car would not stop canking after it started would be a pretty good indicator. A serious defect though. Id just wait for the notice and not worry unduly. Look at the bright side, if your car did torch, you get a brand new one wthout the defect

Only issue is when the car tries to start and can't. IE, the engine is locked up because you hydrolocked it in a deep puddle, or a catastropic engine failure. if that happens and you continue to attempt to start the car, it will overheat the starter voltage drop limiter (essentially a large resistor) and it can melt/catch fire.
On a good working car without a locked up engine, it's not a problem.

I heard that they will be mailing out recall notices to owners of affected vehicles (in the US) by the end of March, but the part(s) needed to fix the problem will not be available until June or July.
Has anybody else heard this?

My local news channel reported on this yesterday...they said to contact the dealership but as with most recalls you'll get a letter if your vehicle is affected...
