Eco Off™ for Mercedes-Benz

Hi all,
Has any one tried this Eco Off™ for Mercedes-Benz E 2017 on there car yet from Mid City Engineering on there web site it is showing that
Mid City Engineering™ is now offering the only Eco Off™ solution available for your Mercedes Benz vehicle. The factory Eco feature defaults to the ‘On’ mode every time the vehicle is restarted- but not anymore.
With our all new Eco Off™ interface, Eco is set to ‘off’* upon vehicle start up, providing you complete control! Its $174.00

*Eco mode is not disabled and can still be used when desired.

If you are using this in your car please tell me how it is going for you.
cheers

174 dollars to save pressing a button by your thigh on the few trips where the stop start may annoy you! Even i draw the line at that level of laziness and i, I'm sure this is oxymoronic, work hard to be lazy!

Not being smart and money in the bank doesn't feature in my view that spending money to do such a minor change, which could also invalidate warranty, seems ridiculously nuggatory.

I hated the auto start stop in the beginning. Now, I like it. You get used to it. MB's system is one, if not the smoothest in the market.

I have had the auto start stop in three cars now I hated it from day one still hate it now. The way i look at it is you do not have to accept anything in life just because its there Benz or not if i can find a way around it i just try and see how it works out if it works the way i want great if not you are back were you started from and what have you lost sweet F.A.....It's always your choice how and what you do.I always take full responsibility for my actions what ever they maybe.I am sure no one can get uptight about this just relax and enjoy your car i do but i do it my way......

Sorry but you have to understand the above is not correct at all. There are many things you cannot take responsibility of like you claim. Please explain how you are going to compensate for the rest of the world your exceeded share of emissions?

I don't like the Stop-Start system either, the part that you cannot set it off by default.

Obviously you do not like rules. Aren't you the same guy that reconfigured your dash screen to watch TV while driving? Some people cannot conform to the greater good. It's all about me, me me. Sad!

Here are a couple of articles about Eco Stop/Start from Edmunds. Apparently the system does help with fuel economy and emissions in certain situations. No doubt the saving are much more important to car manufacturers in helping meet regulations than to individual drivers.

https://www.edmunds.com/car-reviews/...save-fuel.html

https://www.edmunds.com/fuel-economy...-low-cost.html

And another article (you be the judge).

https://www.nytimes.com/2016/04/08/a...-not.html?_r=0

I have had it on two E series. Don't care much for it in my particular driving use, and usually turn it off. I would love to have MB give me the choice to permanently shut it off, but they don't. I believe some BMWs do. I do find it funny some people criticize the desire to turn off Eco Stop/Start, but vigorously defend their right to drive cars with bigger engines and worse fuel economy. Who's saving the planet now??

Sadly no one seems able to answer your original question (before veering off topic), and there are no reviews on the manufacturer's web site. Looks like the product here in USA is sold through dealers. Maybe one of them would be able to ship to you if you decide to buy. Good luck.

Actually electric cars pollute more than conventional combustion cars when one considers the fossil fuel power plant emissions and the much larger level of emissions from the manufacturing and decommissioning processes.

Depends where you live. US gets a little under 35% of is electricity from renewable or nuclear energy, UK gets a little over 45%, a figure which continues to grow. Iceland is entirely renewable, a goal a lot of countries aspire to.

In the UK and most likely in most mixed energy source open markets you can buy your home energy from companies who trade only in clean energy. So you can, theoretically, run an electric car without creating emissions. Of course production costs will be higher in terms of energy but again, in countries with high clean energy mixes that's not such an impact anymore. And a lot of our is harvestable at the end.

I remember stories about the Prius life cycle cost being worse then gas guzzling offroaders but technology and design has moved on.

I'm not familiar with Top Gear or the people you mentioned. That said nuclear energy is not pollution free as many would believe. Just ask the folks that are/were impacted by the Fukishima or Three Mile Island disasters. Then there is the issue of disposing of spent nuclear fuel, a huge pollutant. According to the US EIA stats for 2017 the US produces about 15.5% of its power from non-polluting sources - hydro, wind, solar and geothermal. Most consumers in the US do not have a choice of the source for their electricity because the providers have regional monopoly.

I had it installed in my car two days after purchase. One of my colleagues who bought his W213 two months before me was riding with me recently and asked why mine didn't shut off in such an abrupt manner the way his does. When I explained that I had the Eco-off installed he was sold and had one ordered one for himself before the day was over. It works perfectly. Each time the car starts in comfort mode. If you have a 2017 you can also program it to start in Individual mode as well. Any time you wish to have eco-mode on you can select it. And you can reset it at any point to return to auto-stop at any point.
