Angry Is the SD card reader faulty?

We took delivery of a E300 (2017) three days back & I have been trying media files (MP3s only so far) using the USB, this works fine.
I decided to use the SD card slot since the card does not protrude, unlike the USB. However I have tried two cards (32GB & 4GB) both as NTFS & exFAT but the system does NOT recognise any cards.
If I put these same cards into a USB adaptor then they are recognised without any issues.
I'm guessing that the card reader is faulty? Can anyone verify if this sounds correct.
The manual says basically any sized SD card is okay & any format.
Any advice would be appreciated thanks before I contact Mercedes.

Thanks expresspotata! Kind of reminds me of the lyrics "Want kind of fool am I"!

I had stupidly assumed media was auto detected which logically can't be done since all four inputs (USB 1, USB 2, Bluetooth or SD card) could have devices connected.

Once I figured out that you need to select the required input then all was fine. Thanks for the help.

I feel like a total idiot!

Buy one of these shorty USB cards. Available in all sizes on Amazon. I bought the 128g for $30. Does not protrude at all.

Thanks Sunrose305

When I initially believed that the SD card reader was faulty I did check these out as I had one some years back but the plastic broke away & I binned it.

Now that the SD card is okay that's fine as it goes flush with the slot & doesn't protrude at all. I also found that these mini USB drives are often unbranded & extremely slow though for music probably irrelevant. In fact I only found "generic" (unbranded) ones on eBay & experience over the years often showed that these are frequently very small capacity cards with their FAT table doctored to mimic their "claimed" capacity.

Thanks for the tip but I found a micro SD (in an adaptor) worked fine but I then (stupidly) ordered a SanDisk Extreme Pro SDHC 32GB 280 MB/S class 10 card (claimed to be the worlds fastest) & at $100 is should be!

I'm sure it will perform no better than a $15 card but I just can't help myself!

I have installed in my W204 the PCMCIA adaptor with SDHC card.
The maximum card capacity allowed is 32 Gb !!!..... I tried to put one of 64Gb and it was refused by the audio system (error message : No playable files).
The card must be formatted in FAT32 …. (I guess it is formatted by default like this)
The only file formats accepted : mp3 ........ Not .wav , not .flac , not .wma
The order of songs / listing is alphabetically sorted in the folders you have created on card previously... or you may save them directly on the root without any folder.

I recommand a card with a big reading speed (over 50Mb/s) ; the writing speed is not relevant

The limitations you listed are not restrictions in my '18 E300 (W213). The card MUST be formatted as FAT32. Windows formatting software has a limit of 32GB, but third party software has no such restriction. The MB real limit is a max of 50k files. I have flac music files and mp4 video files. They play flawlessly.

Technology has changed a lot since 2007 when the W204 was new.
