Consistent Inconsistencies of the E300
With this piece of trash it isn't a matter of what doesn't work, it's of matter of what does work.
Mine has the following incongruities:
1) Iphone shuts off by itself while your navigating to your destination.
2) Iphone shuts the music off while driving and then comes on intermitently
3) Parking Pilot works when it feels like it
4) Trunk opens roughly every 1 in 20 times when you move your foot underneath the trunk from side to side
5) The list goes on..........
Ordering a new Audi A6 as soon as the 2018's come out and I've been driving E's and S's for the past 25 years but just because MB makes something doesn't mean it isn't garbage and when they engineered the E class they should have formatted the blueprints and done the public a favor!
IMO only the diehard fools will continue to defend this mistake and buy it, there's plenty of chumps for MB to choose from.

I'm sorry to hear you've had so many problems.
Although I'm sure the 2018 A6 will be a fine car, will you not be risking having more first model year issues like you've experienced with the E300?

There's something about that car's production that just isn't ready for prime time!
My trunk was the same way. I looked like I had tourette's in the parking lot of the grocery store. It was frustrating. It would close, though, EVERY TIME with my foot on the first try.
Any time a phone is involved, you've got to wonder if it has anything to do with the phone, the handshake between phone and car or the car.
My list was long enough (and the scratched hood and trunk waxed over to be concealed to the new buyer (me) was enough for Mercedes USA to do a trade assist. The bad taste a car like yours and mine lingers until you get rid of it.

The only issue I've had is the parktronic, which is as useless as it was on my C class. Otherwise, my car has been flawless. Good luck with VW electronics, which from all reports, is just as less than reliable as MB's. All German automakers use virtually the same suppliers, thus suffer from similar foibles.

First year of production..
I wonder how hard is it to employ a quality control management in a billion dollar company, so their flagship product is faultless.

3. When you took delivery did anyone showed you how the parking works?
4. Same as #3. You don't move your foot from side to side. You move your foot more like a kick under the rear bumper.
5...more?

Correct, trunk is opened by a kick in and out, NOT by swiping from side to side.

im jealous by the few issues you've had with your car, consider yourself lucky. The iPhone issues are most likey your own phone issues.
