how'd the car know to "turn on headlights?"
Hi everyone we just got back from our first road trip. Our car, a 2017 E300, was wonderful on the road. But I have become curious as to how some things happened.
1. The car occasionally said "turn on headlights" in broad daylight. How did it do that? Traffic sign recognition? GPS?
2. the center steering hold on the steering wheel icon is usually red. Occasionally it was brown though. What's the difference?
Thanks in advance...

1) as far as I know, the car is just using an ambient light sensor positioned on the dash. If you are driving through a tunnel, it will sense the darkened environment and turn on the headlights. Ditto for them turning off after you exit. I dont recall where it is in the E class but it usually is a small dome in the center of the dash behind the windshield by the windshield defroster vents.
2) which icon are you referring to?
