Question How to permanently mute the Comand navigation voice

Hi,

I have a simple problem with my new E-class wagon. I prefer silent navigation systems and on all my cars I have allways turned the navigation voice of. I want to do that on my new car as well but have not succeeded.

In the audio settings you can adjust the level of all the audio feedbacks in the car, including the navigation. There I have set the level to zero, and unchecked the option to lower the music during a navigation announcement. It works fine, until next time I enter a destination, then the voice is back. And allways to level 27. Is this a bug, or am I doing something wrong?

Check the owners manual. What I do to mute the voice on my W205 is simply hit the steering wheel mute button when it's talking- this mutes it for the duration of the trip. I would imagine it's the same for the W213 but I will have to wait a month to verify.

that is correct, but OP is searching for permanent solution I guess.

Lowering the sound in settings is the same as when you lower the sound
the moment the GPS talks. in both case it will retain the last sound level.

So Maybe you set sound to zero in settings, but then raised it during a drive?

No, I'm sure i haven't. No matter how I do, the voice is back every time I enter a destination and start driving.

Seems odd.

Wink Oma Mercedes kennt alles (Granny Mercedes knows what's good for you)

Over on the W205 forum (C300/400/etc., 2015 on), no subject has aroused more flaming outrage than the need to turn off the Mercedes ECO Start/Stop every time the vehicle is started (if the driver doesn't like it). There is a aftermarket industry selling computer fixes to owners desperate enough to risk the functionality of their central computers. A close second is the anger over having to reset the Mercedes Dynamic Select driving mode with each start (if the driver prefers a driving mode other than Comfort).

I myself believe that goal of Mercedes-Benz is to take away ALL driver choices, including the steering wheel. That is why Mercedes is spending a fortune on autonomous vehicles. Since I was a kid reading Popular Science in the 1950s, the international auto safety establishment has identified the biggest auto safety problem as the "nut behind the wheel". Engineers are all about control. Does anyone think that Mercedes engineers are willing to spend fortunes on Blind Spot-this and Automatic-that and ignore the one thing in the car that they can't control, the driver?

Does the same reset to 27 happen if you have it set to 1 (or anything else) instead of 0? Just wondering if it is a issue with the setting to 0.

yes... I checked today and the same situation even if I set the volume to 1, 10 or 50. It always get back to 27... I thought the reason was that I had only "guest" account on my car, but I've created a new profile an nothing changed

I got same issue in my 2019 a238. As well as the driving style and auto stop/start are set to default every time I get into my car again. I have to set everything to my preferred setting every time for 2 years for already 20k+ miles. Wtf is wrong with dam MB? With every new MB car I get i start looking to other brands. Now they came out with that ugly face-lift on the 2021 a238 giving me wven more reasons to get a bmw..

I just got from a BMW435D to a Mercedes E400
damn voice controls...
when I change the volume when the navigation voice sounds, it also mutes the radio which was on at that time????

I have button in my previous BMW, disable voice commands... how simple can it be?

How do you change the navigation volume? I mean where and when? You can change it in the navigation settings, whitout the navigation being activated, kind of set up the default navigation voice volume level. Or you can adjust the voice volume when using navigation and it is talking to you. In second case if the radio is playing, the volume control switches from radio to navigation. If second scenario applies to you, then what happens is navigation starts talking, you start lowering the volume and while you were doing it if navigation finished, volume control switches to radio and you are lowering the radio already.

Bottom line it's crazy how they came up with such thing.

By the way, your benz is diesel or gasoline?

I change the navigation volume "the woman" when she starts reading the navi instructions, I just lower the volume till zero.
I will have check to see if I can change it without using the navigation.
When the volume control switches from radio, which was on, then the navi volume is zero and there is a silence, after that the radio goes back on.

No, I did not lowered the radio volume, because the other way around, turning up the volume doesn't make my radio go louder.
#offtopic:
I had a BMW 435 Diesel but due to non-visionary goverment rules and Covid I have to go back to Benz on gasoline.
my car was standing still for almost a year and I am not allowed to go to this office this year, so reason I changed.
taxes on Diesel are 3x as much then gasoline

Isn't there a option on the left menu to mute the navi volume? I've got my command updated to 5.80 last 3 weeks ago and this option is still available to me.
I always just do left click and click on the mute.
I do not believe there is a permanent solution to this. I've tried to lower the volume to 0 in the "Other sound settings" and I can only bring it down to 5 for Navigation voice.
One thing that I realise though is that, the interior ambient light brightness. I would set it at 90%. But when I get back into the setting page, it would have changed to 91%.
Strange....

You should be able to adjust navigation volume in the navigation settings without it being active, but it only will apply to next time time you use navigation. After volume of voice is back on... Complete nonsense.

I see. In my case when navigation starts talking the music lowers a lot, but not mute, and both music and navigation sound. If at this moment I use the olume control it changes only navigation. After she finish talking music volume is back to where it was.

Your case is different, maybe some software update will fix?

How do you compare dynamics of Benz to bimer?
