In purchasing (actually leasing 4 yrs) a E400 wagon 2017 - would you guys think a $1500 package for replacing breaks and a key replacement is worth it which is value for 48 months? Or in other words when do breaks need replacing on a car such as this ?

Depends on driving habits. Aggressive driving or frequent stops from high speeds, you would need front brake pads in 20K. Non aggressive driving breaks should last through four year lease.

Generally we replace first brakes between 50 and 75k miles, but as mentioned all comes down to driving style.

I don't think it's worth it. You could do a pad slap on the older W211 and W212 models. Their rotors were typically thick enough. Not sure how much a key goes for these days on a W213, they were normally $300-$500 but some got them cheaper. Depends if you have keyless go or not, the keyless go ones are more like $500 and the regular ones are more like $300. The high price of the keys make me keep track of them.

I think you may just end up doing the dealer a favor. The light typically goes on when the pads are down to 25%. If you return it and the light isn't on, you probably don't have to replace it and in order to make a car CPO, the dealers have to do the brakes if they're worn down to a certain level. So now they've got you paying for brakes they normally end up having to do.

Total rip off. Unless you have to replace the 4 rotors not even an MB complete brake job gets close to that price. I just did had a complete brake service on our MDX done at the dealer, including resurfacing all the rotors (70K miles) price $500.
