if you want to run on 20’s however you will need the air suspension. Anything larger than 18” with run flats will be quite unpleasant without it as it will crash over potholes and feel unsettled.
For sure. Today I test drove an XC90 with the 21s and I found the ride jiggly and unsettled by imperfections. It wasn't disastrous, but compared to my E wagon, a definite downgrade. We turned around and went out in an XC90 with 20s and it was much, much better. Sure, the 21s look great but at what cost? Same with the Q7 today on 20s, perfectly acceptable ride. The Cayenne, even with 21s, was excellent and well controlled (but small).

The dealer is getting a car with the 19s that I prefer, but without ABC. Will see how that rides. At worst, I like the 5 star 18s as my go to rim.

If you're looking at the 19" wheels, I would suggest passing unless you want to swap out the stock tires for different ones. So far the 19s were actually the worst ride in the wagon, imho.

2017 e400 wagon space

I’m nervous as I pick up my E400 wagon Monday. I’m going from a GLS 450 to the wagon and at 6’ 1” tall I’m concerned that I will be able to deal with the smaller car. Although I tested the E400, I have not driven extensively. Any thoughts.

I’m 6’1” and have no problems with my wife’s 2016 E350 Sedan. Can’t imagine the new wagon is any less accommodating. Enjoy your new wagon and please post photos when you get a chance.

I find the E300 a bit tight with driver leg room. I'm 6'0" and I drive with the seat all the way back. I wish there was another 2 inches of front leg room.

You will fit more than fine. What you will have to adjust to is the much lower ride height and less commanding view over the road. The e class has ample leg room given the ridiculous amount of seat travel.

I’m 6’3” and have zero problems with the seats or space in the car, in front or in back. One of the things to remember is you can use the very broad range of adjustment to the seats to get a position that suits you well.

Of note Is that you can adjust the bolster electronically and that can make them feel more snug or more relaxed.

We will also be packing a compact low-slung jack, a telescoping lug wrench, a tire pressure gauge, and a small portable air pump (along with a portable shovel, sand, ice melt, etc., in case of wintry conditions). There is room in the car to stash smaller accessories in mesh pockets or perhaps (if need be) under the front seats. I haven't investigated space under the jump seat by the tailgate thoroughly, but there is no room there, or anywhere else except loose in back with that seat folded down, big enough for even a portable spare or the jack, unless you took out the seat (and maybe not even then for the spare). The car is too low-slung to stash a spare tire underneath, as on SUVs, nor do we want to attach a box on the roof to carry it. Possible means for securing those items in back so they don't roll around are provided, a workable but not an elegant solution. We switch tires from summer to winter twice a year, so we'll pack one unused tire as a spare, with the other accessories, when we go out of town, since road service in the far north is often far away. We've done the same thing for years with my wife's minivan. While not an ideal remedy for the designers' omission, that shouldn't deter you from getting the car.
Can you tell us what wheel model and size you have, and how you sourced the OEM wheels?

When I ordered the car via European delivery from Herbert Haemmer of MB of Escondido, I asked him to arrange with his parts department to provide a second set of four wheels and hub caps matching the ones that would be delivered on the car in Germany, with the sensors for tire pressure. Ours were the eighteen-inch double five-spoke wheels--the only choice offered in that size on the 2017 US E400 wagon with the luxury trim. The wheels were packed in the car when we picked it up at the dealership after its trip across the ocean. I had asked Discount Tires to order the studded snow tires to match the wheels; the Hakkapeliitta 9's had just been released, but Discount Tires of Tigard, OR, had them ready and mounted them on the wheels when we stopped there on our way north. A few weeks later, they were expertly installed on the car by Morris Gulycz of MB of North Vancouver, BC; winter tires are required after October 1 outside urban areas of BC, and we were glad we had them on. The wheels look terrific and the tires have been excellent on snow and ice so far this season.

I presume that a MB dealer or someone on this forum could provide the exact information required to order the wheels, but I relied on the dealer's knowledge of those details.

Quick update: I got mine a week ago and so far absolutely adore it. Definitely worth waiting for the 2018 and it has been a stellar performer in every way.

I'll be writing up a more in-depth review in the next week as well

I am picking up my 2017 E400 Wagon tomorrow. I love wagons and it is a shame that in Canada the options are so limited. After driving R Class, AKA Alabama Merc, for 10 years this will be a nice change and I am looking forward to it..

That's exactly what I did going from an 08 and 11 R Class to a 14 wagon...and probably getting another wagon. You will like being in a proper car again, although we really enjoyed the R as a family of 5.

We lived in Germany for 18 months and drove Alfa Romeo 159 Sportwagon Truismo Ti - I loved that car and always regarded not brining it back to Canada, where my temperamental Italian mistress would have lasted exactly 3 min in our winters.
