W213 use 64 color system with LIN bus addresses individually. I don't think is possible to add extra LED's without a trick.

Wow, looks great, good work. I have this setup in my Cabrio but of course not my wagon, not going to bother making the change in the wagon looks like a lot of work and with the way I tend to get rid of cars when I get the itch not worth it, lol. Plus it's nice to have something different when I get in my Cabrio.

First of all congratulations !!!... you have done a great job!!
Did you take any picture during the installation??
Do you have some pictures of the wiring and of the LEDs. Do you have some pictures about the wiring positioning between the LEDs and the ambient lighting control unit?

Yes. New LEDs need to be added to the control unit via Xentry.

Hello,
I recently got a E53 coupe courtesy car from the dealer with these lighted turbo vents. Wow, the look great so now I want to install them on my E63S 2019. The mechanical installation is pretty well documented for the DIY, but the electrical wiring is not documented at all. Can someone please post a few pictures or details of where the wiring harness is connected? Also what needs to be changed in the Xentry, and will a good dealer service center know and be willing to activate the additional 6 LEDs?
Thanks in advance,
cheers

I hate to see a new car taken apart like that unless necessary. Did you create any new rattles or have any trouble with breaking plastic parts when prying apart?

Mike.

Mike.

there were sometimes when I opened mine up, i felt so scared that i can break this piece that piece.
definitely a risk when you do it yourself( like me), cause you need the whole front dash to be disassembled.
As far as I concerned, screen can be taken off with 3 screws. The trim dash is a bit tricky, needs some pulls, and pressure on the right spot( there are some plastic clips). The side airvents basically just pull out with a "pin" tool.

I've done mine myself and imo, it's worth it.

Thank you, vic viper, for the details. I just want to get access to the start button unit, I suppose I have to proceed the same, do I? Question #2: what are the two tools in the middle? Question #3: do you know how to reach the brake lights switch?
Thank you again!

Vic and Elnos,

Did you guys unplug the main battery in the car before removing the cluster and everything, or is that not necessary?

I want to say that I would disconnect all battery power from the car before going into any project that will disturb wiring harnesses. It may not be strictly necessary but you will be glad you did in the event of any stray current that could damage electronics and electrical fires are nearly impossible to put out. How hard is it to disconnect the negative terminal on each battery?

Be sure to read the procedure for removing and replacing batteries. My 2005 SL requires that one of the batteries be installed before the other but I can't remember the proper order off hand.

Mike.

Thanks for your input. Ive removed the battery in the W213 before when I installed my new Steering Wheel & Airbag, its quite simple actually. I will most likely unplug it but just figured id ask Vic if he did it on his.

I didn't during my air vent change procedure. But yes, it's safe to say you should do that just to prevent anything electrical related can happen.
Btw, have you changed your steering wheel to new 2019 style?

Thanks, and yeah, I'll just make it a note to remove the battery. More potential harm done without doing so. I am not actually swapping to the illuminated vents, I just have a small chip in my wood trim and I ordered a replacement and plan to replace it myself versus paying the dealer to do it.

Regarding steering wheel / airbag, no, I installed a 2018 E coupe sport steering wheel with lane assist that I managed to find on eBay in Europe with low miles (nearly new). I also purchased a leather stitched airbag to accompany it. I actually prefer the 2017-18 style with cruise stalk on column versus the 2019 style wheel with it up on the wheel. I believe that also requires a column change and coding to achieve whereas mine was just a simple swap. Picture below of it installed:

That is nice. I thought you have replaced to the new 2019 ones, cause I heard it needs coding and stuff.
Good luck with the dash replacement.

Hello,
I think we need to make a wiring harness with the LED wires and the short wire connector A 213 540 12 28.
We all need just someone to let us know how to connect the 6 LED/wires to the A 213 540 12 28.
1. Do we connect the 6 LED’s in parallel (4 LED wires red, black, yellow, brown) to which connector side?
2. Where do you plug the other side of the A 213 540 12 28 into the car ?
3. Then you need to activate the LED’s via Xentry?

Thanks in advance,
