I didn’t realise it was this clever!...I’m going to have play tomorrow.

I really ought to read the manual!

I tried doing some of what you were doing and none of it worked. Does anyone know if all the features are available on '17s as well? I tried voice commands for increasing temps, fan speed, etc....nada.

Thanks. I guess it's available. Either I'm mumbling or it's broken
I'll have to play around with it some more.

Your not the only one...I tried in my ‘17 and couldn’t get it to work either.

I’ll be at my dealer next week and will get confirmation if this works for ‘17s.

The first message was about a 2018 model. Read the 2017 manual above to figure out what your car can do. Another option is to ask "help" from linguatronic.

I've tried it today for the first time but not sure how it works. I was listening to the radio and said "turn volume down". It turned the fan level down
Tried it again and it found the closest contact's name to "turn volume down"
Then I've tried to turn the climate control fan down by first saying "climate control" and it indeed moved to the climate control sub menu. Then I have said "fan level down" and it heard fan level 1 so I've tried fan level 4 and it indeed changed it to 4. Then to go back to radio, I've just said radio and it moved back to radio sub menu.
Is that the right way? First say the sub menu name and then what I want it to do?

The Linguatronic system evolved in the 2018 models, much more selectable features and different language options.

Unfortunately do not know if it is possible to update the 17 model to this system.

Hey Vic I was hoping it would be an update but doesn’t look like it, as I just had my car in for service and any updates available were performed on my vehicle at that time...Damn that sucks!

Are you sure they updated the COMAND head unit?, that is a pretty complicated and lengthy process.

To my knowledge yes, however I will check with my shop foreman to be certain.

What is the most recent firmware and/or version on the Command software?

This way I know exactly what to ask for.

I believe 2017 can only activate the climate control menu but you cannot change any settings. Fan speed may be reduced simply to reduce noise, helping linguatronic interpret your voice commands.

Forgot to report back but I did make it work by saying "fan level up" or "fan level down" or "fan level XX" and it changes its level to whatever XX is.
Moreover you can also change the temperature by saying "temperature warmer/colder/XX". I'm not a native English speaker but it mostly understands what I want.

I got confirmation that it isnt possible to update prevous models to the new Linguatronic system, .. as of yet.
The Germans are currently investigating if it is possible for a software retrofit, apparently the hardware is different in the two systems making a software fix problematic.

Thanks for the update and confirmation...if there is a way I know you will be one of the first to know and mod your system!

I'm blaming current user manuals. I did try to figure out which controls are supported by voice control and did not find the above. Should have visited the garage and try these things for real. Very good to know these options exist. Next step is to encourage the wife to learn and make full use of linguatronic.

Thanks but it looks similar to the manual app we have for European cars. As an example it shows how to get to the navigation menu and then a lot of topics that can be controlled for navigation. But for climate control it just shows how to get to the climate control menu, no further control (unless I missed it). This lead me to interpret that HVAC control needs to be performed "manually" from that point onwards.

Perhaps voice control is so advanced now that it isn't possible to explain every command in the manual like manuals for older cars did.

2018 E400 Coupe
It is from the 2018 E400 Coupe's manual. I created the PDF of the voice commands so that I can print just that portion of the 487-page tome and have it available for reference both in the car and on my computer. It's a rather overwhelming list of possible commands (eight pages of them) that will take some time to memorize. I thought others might be interested in doing the same.

I’m not too fussed about the voice commands for functions which are operated by a single push of a button on the dash...navi & telephone operational voice commands are useful.

if there are operations that you use regularly which require multiple button presses and menus try to establish if there is a suitable voice command that can be used instead...one I use quite a bit is “STATION (name)” to tune the radio, the kids object to my favourite 80s music radio station when they get in the car!.

For once I was right. I knew I missed something. Your message said it is the 2018 version, you should have included that to the document title (for me). Is the Coupe the same as the 2018 Sedan by the way?

A separate PDF on voice commands is useful but at the car I would prefer linguatronic help rather than reading a pdf, obviously while driving but even when stationary.

2018 E400 Coupe
I welcome anything that helps keep my eyes on the road these days, what with seemingly every other driver more involved with sending their oh-so-important emails and texts to their "friends" rather than paying attention to the task at hand. Defensive driving is now more critical than ever.

I changed the name of the PDF to avoid any confusion. I do agree that the system would be better if it had a more intelligent interface, something like Siri, for example ("Hey, Merc, how many miles to the next In-and-Out Burger?") . As for any differences between the 2018 E400 Coupe's and 2018 E400 Sedan's voice commands, I can't say but I would be surprised if they aren't identical.

Just noticed in my 17 E350e that I cannot set the temperature anymore using voice control. It says that these settings are unavailable currently.
Very strange.
