How do I set the default for ECO to off?
My 2018 E400 Coupe is equipped with ECO, which among other things shuts the engine off whenever the car comes to a compete stop, restarting it when I take my foot off the break. I find it annoying and sincerely doubt that it saves much if any gas, so I always press the button to turn it off.
Is there a way to configure ECO to be off when I start the car and to stay off until I turn it on?

Hi!
I think you can define that under "Dynamic Select". If you choose Sport+ the auto off (eco mode) will be disabled. But you should be able to modify the other settings as well.

There isn't a way to turn it off permanently using the method described above. The problem with that is the car will reset the mode after been of for a while. There is a module that was done for the C class that implements this. I'm not sure whether it works for the E class. Please search the W205 forum for it.

Yes he has the button but he doesn’t want to press the button. He wants it to default to off and he can press the button to put the eco start stop on if he wants.
You can make an individual setting under the part whereby you can adjust comfort, sport and sport plus. Under Individual you deselect eco start stop
but after 4 hours if the car is off you have to re select individual - it doesn’t default

Yes, but I want to set the DEFAULT to off so that it's not on when I start the car. Apparently not possible.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it doesn't work on the 2018 E400 —tried every setting, it's still on when the car starts.

No that is beacuse of emission laws and so on that it always will start in comfort mode. But can´t you cange as in above mentioned thread that in "individual" you will have it disabled? Yes you need to choose "indivdual"mode every time you start the car... but it is for free...

Simply no way to leave it on your desired setting it will always default to comfort. On the GLS you can since the stiing is with a rotary dial thus it will start on which ever setting you left it in. There is no cogent reason for it besides meeting fuel economy/ emission standards.

No option to turn ECO off in the Dynamic Select settings in my car — all four settings start with ECO on. May be a change in the 2018 model.

Yeah, some will say that's a lot to pay to avoid having to press the damn button, but I truly hate the button, find it an annoyance to have to press it (which I generally forget until the car craps out at an intersection), and it's only about 1/10th or 1% of the price of the car, so no big deal.

Thanks for the suggestion. I e-mailed Vladimir, the seller in Belarus, and after a few back-and-forths, he gave me a deal and lowered the price on eBay from $149.99 to $129, plus $14 shipping.

BTW, MY2017 offered the option of turning off ECO in the Dynamic Select using Sport, Sport+, or Individual settings. The Dynamic setting remembered your choice, BUT you had to go to that dynamic mode after every start up to have it take effect. Otherwise the car starts in Comfort Mode with default ECO stop/start ON. MY2018 does NOT have this feature. ECO is gone, replaced by ESP (traction control). Sad...

My ECO Start-Stop Off module finally arrived — it was apparently lost in the mail or perhaps stolen. When I contacted the seller, Vladimir, he had another one sent from Canada by DHL Express.
Here's the review I left on eBay:
Very easy to install in my 2018 E400 Coupe (hardest part for these old bones was finding and getting to the OBD2 port). It works exactly as the seller claims.
Without this device, the car's annoying ECO Start-Stop "feature" automatically turns the engine off every time you come to a complete stop, such as at a traffic light. Apparently that's supposed to save a tiny bit of fuel so that Mercedes can claim higher gas mileage and meet emissions standards, but it's annoying and delays the car's response to the throttle once the light changes. There is a button on the center console to turn this "feature" off, but it always comes back on when you restart the car. With this device installed, ECO start-stop stays in the last position selected in your previous drive — that is, OFF! And once you install it, you can remove the module from the OBD2 port.
BTW, I did have a problem with delivery of the device, which comes from Minsk, Belarus (between Poland and Russia). However, the seller, Vladimir, promptly fixed that. He also responded very quickly to my questions and concerns. Good guy, good product, not cheap but highly recommended if you can justify the cost!

And here I am annoyed my eco stop start does not work! I am still in a C250d but have an e 220d on order. Has anyone had their eco stop start stop in the e?I have also had the auxillery battery warning message and the unit has been replaced. It worked a few days and then has reverted to not working. After a 132km trip today the status display finally turned green but was yellow a little further down the road. I suspect my short journey use is not helping but I am hoping the e has a better system.......I am wondering if the charge circuit is kaput in mine. Will mention it when next at the delaer.

Shakes the Whole Car!
Yea I hate auto-off too. Mainly because when the car auto-starts again the starter shakes the whole car. I have a Lexus with auto-off and you can't even tell when the engine restarts because it is so smooth and quiet.

I make turning off start/stop a part of my startup routine. It so automatic that I don't even think about it. I started the practice after the engine stopped when I was making a left turn. The engine did not restart in a timely manner almost causing an incident.
