48 volt cars
Does anyone know when (if?) 48v versions of the E-Class will make it to the US markets? I remember Merc wanting to go to a 42v electrical bus many years ago. I think this would be a great move for them, especially considering how many electrical gremlins I've encountered with numerous W212s, all which seemed to be voltage-related.

The gasoline engines will have a 48 V system, I guess that is what matters to the US market. Anyway it seems like a mess, difficult to follow but aren't diesel engines still traditional 12 V systems equally as plug-in hybrids (plug-in hybrids having the high voltage system though, at almost 400 V nominal voltage).

I believe that the I6 is already available in the 2018 S500 in Germany and will make it to the US for MY19. With that in mind, I thought that maybe it might make it to the W213 for MY19 in the US as well, but that's just a guess.

Blame the US government for the delays. The US is still stuck with 1960s-era regulations about how cars should work, which ultimately makes US-spec cars less safe & less environmentally-friendly.
