Leave engine running while in Park and exit vehicle?

There are times when I want to exit the vehicle for a brief moment and want to leave the engine running. I find that sometimes I can while other times the engine cuts off upon opening door. Is there a way I can do this while leaving the FOB inside the car and exit the car w/o shutting down engine?

For this of you who need an explanation as to why I want to do this: Sometimes I need to run back inside the house to retrieve something I forgot and don't want to shut off the car. I sometimes want to get the mail from my mailbox without shutting engine off. I sometimes valet park and don't wish to turn engine off when I hand the car over to the valet. I sometimes want to go around passenger car and open door from outside to let my elderly mother-in-law inside. There are many more variations but one should get the point by now.

Any tips?

i just checked it but engine stays on...
are you sure the engine switches off and it's not the stop/go that kicks in?

Thats my expiriece too. The engine stays on. If the autostart activates before you open the door it stays off.

Well, I do have the Eco drive option in use, so thie may be what's actually happening. Problem is I find it not to be consistent in the stop/go. I turned on the car a while back, left the FOB in the center console ashtray, backed out of the garage and then pulled back in. With engine running, got out of the car but it did not stop. I then pulled out again and drove around my driveway, pulled it back in, got out with FOB in my pocket this time, and the engine remained running while I exited the vehicle. Last time I recall it stopping while I got out of the car was Thanksgiving when I handed it over to a restaurant valet to park, inwhoich case, as soon as I had put it in Park and opened the door, the engine stopped. The screen display then flashed some red colored notice that I can't recall exactly what it said right now. So, it does it sometimes and not other times.

your above seems to point to the stop/go;
in the 1st two cases you had only just started the car, so stop/go was not active yet, while at the restaurant it was.
Or did the valet really had to start the car again?
And are you sure you put it in park yourself, or did the opening of the door make that happen? (hence the red warning light)

Finally got the red letter sign as the car turned off. It reads: "Vehicle operational. Switch ignition off before exiting."

I went to the store and when I got back, I put the car in Park with the engine still running (to try it out), opened the door to get out, when the car engine cut off and the above sign came on

So, I assume this is the Stop/Go you all have bee referencing, and that it requires soe drive time to activate it?

if u get back in the car put it in drive and it moves, then indeed it was just the stop/go
though I never have the warning in my car, but maybe that differs per country.
