I have an E400 and I notice that when I go into the garage the sensor display comes us and as I get close to the sides the areas appear red and the car give its warning beeps. When I exit the garage the next day the display comes up and I see red sections but some days I get beeps while other days I do not. Is this supposed to happen or is there something wrong?

It is merely a proximity alert. A half inch spacing difference can make a difference.

i have same problem (discussed in other thread):

when reversing and turning at the same time the nose of the car
goes in the direction of a wall/car & the display goes red.
But sometimes with and sometimes without sound!

the radar is very erratic. this, plus the very faint beeping sound
of the rear radar, makes me have very little faith it in.

my w212 was much better in this respect

the display goes red, so the radar KNOWS you are close to an object. - so why doesn't it beep???

My experience entering my garage is that I get beeps only when the distance to the object is decreasing, not when the distance is increasing.

I find the proximity display and warnings (beeping) to be consistent — as noted, it depends on how close you are to an object, such as the wall of your garage or the edge of the garage door jamb.

Thanks. At least I know its not just me. I still think if it shows red it should beep.

The problem continues.
I noticed that it's actually only at startup that the radar doesn't beep in reverse.
I takes a while for it t start working properly. Strange....

Do you have Warn Early selected? If so, it should beep every time. Without it, you'll see the segments illuminate first long before it starts to beep.

yes early is selected. and it works, just not always immediately at start up

can someone confirm to me that when display goes into RED the radar should ALWAYS beep ?
as advised in some situations (mainly when backing out) the display goes red, but no beeps.
BUT.. if I then stop the car and steer to the left or right, it does start to beep depending on wheel angle.

fyi: I've now switched off the "early feature".

Mine always beeps when the indicator turns red, forward or backward.

There are many instances when the red warnings appear without any sound especially when entering/exiting an enclosed parking spot or approaching an obstacle.

This item is on my E300 squawks list when I have the first annual service done in August.

Car going in next Tuesday for the warped disc problem and will have them look at this too (again) + the vibrating/rattling speakers..
