Question Are You Okay with Cats on Your Car?

My new next-door neighbor moved in with three cats. The cats think my place is their playground. And they jump on my black e350e everyday and already visibly scratched my car several times. Those scratches are not supposed to be too deep but the severity varies from scratch to scratch. I am trying all the measures (cruelty-free) to keep cats away but it is not successful yet. The cats also regularly jump up on the car of the other neighbor, which is BMW 740. I thought the owner would go crazy but he is rather cool and doesn't get bothered.

Cats don't pee on car. Scratches can be fixed on budget regularly. Now I am wondering if I'm too sensitive.

Would you be okay with cat hairs, dusts, and new scratches on your Merc almost everyday?

Putting my dislike for cats aside - the neighbor's pets are damaging your property and it needs to stop. I know you need to live next to them, but it is at least worth a discussion - I would not be OK with this.

NO - never!!!

In Sweden it is impossible to do anything due the fact that it is in the cats natural habit to be free in the "wild".
So no legal right to sue the owner of the cat or shoot the cat...
I have been waiting for the next door cat to come to our garden and when it did I "shot" some water on the creature. The cat has not returned...

I have talked to one "crazy cat owner" that I think they should look after their cat better. Since it is running around on the street it would be sad if it got hit by a car...

Didn´t see the cat after that and no new scratches to my old car...

I don't care if the car cost 600 or 600.000 Euros;

Cats on car = NO
dogs pissing against wheels = NO NO (yes that's common practise here in France)
leaning against car (especially with jeans with those nice copper nails) = HELL NO

Fawk no! In my town cats can't be outside.......yeah right, NO ONE abides by that......and drives me insane! I recently captured one and took it to the animal shelter....it's also illegal to set an animal free once trapped...two more on my list, one of which IS my neighbors cat....it's just plain rude to let your cat roam.....despite their desire to do so............fawk cats!

In my county cats & dogs must be on a leash when outside. In my neighborhood no pets are allowed inside or outside. That said, there are plenty of wild animals in my neighborhood including cranes, peacocks, gators and coyotes. They stay away from vehicles.

I'd be pretty irritated by that, but if you don't garage your car, you can't expect to have much control over what happens to it.

You are not being too sensitive. This is ridiculous and I would talk to the owners. Try putting a cloth soaked in bleach in an empty can and place it on or around your car.

So you have cat(s) climbing on your car. Did this just start and is it almost all on the hood?

Give the owner an estimate for the paint correction that you have to get. I don't play games. You damage something of mine, you pay.

or some rat poison......oops.....of course not! why would a sane, rational person ever leave poison out for a cat that never stays at it's own house??

This never happened to my SUV. The cats owner lives next door, they have only SUVs (for a reason probably). And now it's like I provided them a sedan to jump up and down. They occasionally scratched my car in Nov. But this month they do that everyday. It's wet season here. They climb all the way top and scratch down.

I will have to talk to the owner. I have nice photos of cats on car, too.

This type of unit I live in doesn't have garage but still I will have to find a way to protect my car for my psychological well-being. Currently I am waiting for
ScatMat ScatMat
s. Take a look at this product if you have the same problem as mine. It seems promising.

Cats usually get on the cars in cold weather after they see the car being parked. For some reason they learn that the hood is warm from the engine so they simply go for the warm place to lay down. You seldom see a cat on a car in the morning as the hood cools down and actually as a metal part becomes colder surface so the cats leave. You can see in the morning the paw prints and yes, they also go on top of the car in search of a warm spot but most paw prints you find on the hood.

I also see this on my car but I don't really care as it really does not damage the paint. I have a number of rock hits on my hood that look much worse and these cat scratches puff out easily if needed.

I have cats as pets and for that I don't hate them at all. It takes some understanding of their habits though.

But there is a way to teach the cat which car not to get on. I did this on two of my cats that happened to be on my car's hood at the same time. I sneaked in the car and gave them the horn. It scared them off and neither one never got on any car after that. This is not easy to do but if there was a remote controlled very loud siren or something that could be triggered from distance it could teach each cat on the car not to get on it. The car's horn worked for me.

Use the panic button on the remote to sound the alarm.

Well there is the remote controlled horn. I forgot the models since 2011 have the horn as the alarm / door lock indicator. My 2010 has the beeper that would not scare anybody not even in the panic mode.

To the OP, please post funny cat videos proving your story. I won’t believe this thread unless I see some funny Mercedes-loving cat videos.

Yup me and that neighbor would have a nice chat. I'm glad I have a garage, when my car is not being driven my car is in the garage.

That would ruin my life. Feed the cats, antifreeze, rat poison, anything you can find. Don't put up with that. It's not my car and I'm pissed off. LOL
Act innocent, don't get caught. Sympathize with your new neighbors, be nice to them, go to the cat funeral. LOL
Of course I am only joking (being politically correct).

If someone has animals it is their responsibility to mind them or to take responsibility for their actions. I have a garage and there are no roaming animals in my neighborhood, but our dog which died last Christmas was not allowed to wander freely and commit mayhem whenever or wherever he chose. This was true even when we lived in an apartment.
