Driver assistance screen question

I have 2018 with P2, so i dont have all the nice driver assistance features, so i dont know what the purpose of this screen is.

what does the signal from the driver side mirror mean or do?

Also what sre you supposed to get from seeing the cars displayed based on how many ft they are away from you?

It doesnt tell you anything regarding distance. I think it just tells you there is a car in your blind spot.

I use the driver assistance display to show the distance to maintain a safe 2 second distance behind the vehicle in front of me. A 100' distance is good for up to about 35 mph. Here driving closer than 2 seconds might get one ticketed for driving too close, especially at higher speeds.

the light on the side view mirrors light up and those wave lengths light up when there is a car in your blind spot...but the big pic shows animations of the car infrom of you getting further or closer in distance infront of you...just wasnt sure what the point was.

Good practice. Too bad many don't follow it, especially in heavy traffic. 35mph is about 50' in 2 seconds. Not sure if we have a "rule" in my state.

2018 E300 Luxury - P3 and more
Here's what it looks like on a 2018 P3. I believe the left display gets merged into the speedometer display on a 2017.

In this photo, the car in front of me had just cut me off. A few things going on here:
Left display:
1) Outdoor temperature -- does anyone know how to switch this over to metric?
2) Green lines on the sides of the road = car recognizes the lane markings
3) Yellow line + light blue shaded pavement = following distance set by DrivePilot. This will increase/decrease with speed.
4) Car icon = distance car is away from you. In this case, less than 25m.
5) Steering Wheel icon. Green = Car is in full control, steering included. Yellow = Car is steering but isn't certain what it should be doing and will most likely hand control over to you soon. White = Car's not sure what to do, you're the one steering. Car will still provided acceleration & braking. No steering wheel = full manual driving.
6) White box with "65" -- Speed limit sign detected and displayed.

Center display:
1) Outer band = RPMs in x1000
2) Bugs. White bug = your car's speed. Red bug = speed of car in front of you. Blue bug = max speed you've set DrivePilot to.
3) Speed display (obvious)
4) E/PRND -- The "E" is the Agility Select drive program, in this case Eco. D8 = transmission in drive, 8th gear. NOTE: In Eco mode, there is a separate Gliding Mode which will come on when you let off the gas at speed. When this happens, the D8 will switch to a green D, indicating the transmission is in Drive, but currently has selected Neutral for the gear.
5) Fuel -- obvious. Note: The last 1/4 tank white tick mark is less than 5 gallons, ie: remote starting in the USA won't work if you're at this level or below. Red tick mark = low fuel level.
6) Car w/speedometer 120 = cruise control max speed setting.
7) Mandatory archaic units of speed required in some backwards countries

Right:
1) Time
2) km / hrs since "Start". "Start" != time since car turned on, rather time since the car was last turned off for more than 2 hrs. (or is it 3hrs?)
3) fuel economy / average speed
4) km to destination / km left in the tank
5) Instantaneous fuel consumption (blue bar) / Average fuel consumption (yellow bug)

This is how I leave my dash configured almost all of the time. I find the 'fish finder' helpful in ugly weather, like today in the misty rain, especially the distance and ahead vehicle speed. I wish the red bug for that would stay on the dash irregardless of whether Distronic is operating or not.

I actually did grow up in the USA and went to US schools, but what they told us was, "By the time you graduate, the whole world will be metric!" So, they never taught us the Imperial units and I never bothered to learn it. I've used 24-hour time since I was ~8 or so.

I had a similar experience with metric back in the '50's. Metric was taught first and imperial was an after thought. I use 24 hour time, dd/mm/yy date and meters. I do not use Euro spelling.
