MBUSA JUST SCRAPPED 2019 E350 completely! They will just continue with E300 - this is just to reiterate my point point from the previous post! Read this: http://mbzmaster.com/important-updat...-sedan-lineup/

I ordered a 2019 E450 Cabriolet just this past week. The 2019 order guide specifies 450 engine. I hope it is not cancelled as the 350 was cancelled.

Very simple: right now you can only order 2019 E-Class models: E350, 450 and 63's. You cannot order 53 yet, and there is no word from MBUSA to confirm anything. This article has a very logical and probable guess.. but not fact. Previous MBUSA CEO had a bright idea to move MBUSA headquarters from NJ to Georgia, wasted so much money on the move... and was fired subsequently. But most experienced people didn't want to move and left the company. So I think MBUSA has a lot of young and very inexperienced new blood... that running around and don't completely know what is going on. That's why so much mess with all the ordering guides providing old and incorrect info and right now everything has to be guessed... I've ordered a lot of cars, but I've never seen anything like that.
On another hand you have incredibly dumb government regulations that can easily stop any models from being sold... or require very costly modifications. For example, MB can't sell Multibeam Headlights systems in U.S... while the rest of the World enjoys the new technology since 2012. The reason is very tiny piece of law that was passed back in 60's (!) requiring that headlights must have manual switch for low and high beams... because at that time not every car had a switch... and also at that time nobody knew that computer can control the switching automatically. We are in 2018 right now and nothing has changed..
And what else can you expect? Recently I was watching how the Senate was drilling Mark Zuckerberg in Washington, and one of the senators asked him: "So what are you going to do about your Twitter?" or something like that... he doesn't even know the difference between Facebook and Twitter... so E53 has to be available logically... but as of right now it's not a fact - it's a guess.

It's coming. The E43 has been more popular than the old E550 ever was so there is no way they're going to drop the E43 and not replace it with anything. They aren't saying anything about the E53 yet to protect the E43 sales that are in flight already and to sell off whatever inventory is out there. The E53 Coupe and Cabrio are coming, would be completely nuts to not have the E53 sedan also.

I'm not going to be surprised if they axe 450 as well... and just keep 400... Did you find out?

Mercedes Benz e450 Wagon / Porsche 911 Cabriolet
Whoa. That 450 is a great compromise between the old 400 and the 43 not available in wagon in the US. It's the way I would lean for a nice balance between speed and comfort for a wagon. But then again, the inline six for 2020 (maybe) really has me wondering whether to wait another year. I have loved inlines ever since my old Bimmer M3 20 years ago.

Yes, it looks like E450 will go on. I think they had problems with 4 cyl engine with EQ boost. It's just too much of an effort to squeeze over 300 hp out of this sucker.. I think it was too good to be true. I still think 4 cyl. E300 is a little under performing for this price range... I still think that C43 AMG is much better car and definitely better buy..

If a similar ratio between AMG power and assembly line power for the v6 (396 vs 329) is maintained in the i4, one could expect 311 HP.

The E53 sedan is coming to the US, but only next year (2019) according to two dealers that I asked. I learned not to trust any of this type of information, but at least it was consistent between two dealers. These dealers don't have any E43 cars, so they weren't trying to sell that.

Still struggling with understanding how this car will compete with the BMW M550i... I wish they put a less powerful version of the E63S V8TT in the E53, and combined it with a more comfortable suspension than the E63S. That would be very appealing, at least in North America. What they're doing with the E53 seems to be targeted more at the European (and some other) markets where V8s are penalized.

Newbie
so our 2018 E400 Wagon is built. If the 2019 E450 is just a V6 with a tune we will go ahead with delivery but sign a shorter lease. Hopefully the M256 motor is available in the 2020 E450 (or whatever it ends up being called)
any suggestions?

If you need the car soon, get the 2018 E400. If you can wait a bit longer, get the 2019 E450. I wouldn't get a less cost-effective 2-year lease just to get the inline-6 engine sooner. Not sure why some expect it to be such a big deal.

So new E class line up to sum it up for 2019 will be E350, E450, E53 & E63? NO more E43 (YAY! not a fan of the faux AMG line up)

The M256 engine (I-6) is a huge deal with 50 more hp than the V-6. It doesn't have the hp consuming belt driven accessories such as A/C compressor and water pump. It is also a mild hybrid with very high efficiency. That said, I wouldn't buy a first year model.
