Free the Features MB Built!

As others have discussed before, most buyers in markets around the world do not have access to all features built into their cars, features they have paid for as part of the various systems. For example, in the US the adaptive high beam headlights are disabled (except for the goofy, annoying light show when the high beams come on). In some markets, remote releases work to raise and lower trunk lids or rear hatches, in other markets they only raise the lids. And what each buyer can see and control on various displays also seems to vary on country of purchase.

So how about some serious hacking. What would it take to crack the MB code, and then allow us to use our cars as we see fit?

The reason features vary by country is because the laws are different. The fully adaptive headlights are illegal in the US.

There have been significant changes. The current lights consist of 84 separate LED elements.

You still get those lighting functions in the US. What is being discussed is that the full Matrix/Adaptive LED functions in ROW cars are not available in the US due to antiquated lighting laws.

That's my point. If I am correct that we already have all the hardware (and maybe even the firmware), I want to use the feature as MB designed--any (gasp!) defy the US government.

And you'd likely get cited in a safety inspection, but I doubt that the firmware is available in US models.

Personally I'd like the remote parking feature, but the required app checks for prohibited country codes in the smartphone.
