I was playing some music on the e400 wagon and find the speakers are distorted especially playing some classic music like trumpet, i checked all speakers and it seems like the two speakers next to the tailgate are very low quality.

What are your thoughts?

You haven't said what audio system you have. You may have to go to the dealer to have them checked out.

It is the burmest speaker system, very distorted for playing piano and some vocal, no depth and it is worse than my Toyota Mirai sound.

There is a lot to be controlled with the standard Burmeister system. I would play with the balance, fade, surround, equalizer before heading to the dealer. I have never heard the $4,000 upgrade, but I have always wondered how any such "upgrade" cold cost so much. Is it even still offered?

No, no upgrade available in the wagon anymore, they use to have a upgrade but that ended with model year 2016. Pretty sure they have the 3D upgrade in the sedan. I know in my S class it was a $6400 dollar option Sounds pretty amazing. It's strange though because it seems like the speaker quality varies so much on car to car. I had a 2018 E63 amg wagon and the sound was terrible, I even wondered maybe if the speakers were swapped out for cheaper speakers when the car came into port when it was new or something as I now have a 2019 E450 Wagon and sound is very good. Strange. You'd think if anything the expensive AMG woulda been better. Maybe you could change out the speakers for better aftermarket ones if you take down the size dimensions.

First check the speaker installation. Perhaps there is a mounting problem or break in the cone.

The 2020 Brochure shows the 3D sound system available for the sedans and coupes. Probably not offered on the wagon because of the two rear speakers. The extra speakers would have upset the economics or required an additional charge. Personally the standard Burmeister system is good enough for me after I played with all the adjustments. Good enough, not fabulous. I listen to 50's on 5, and the BW listens to Symphony Hall.

there is another thread where there was a comparison between certain years. not sure if it was theft related or due to low inventory they used cheaper speakers...
