New i6 engine concerns?

I don't have any special insight. Take a look at the W213 AMG forum to see what's happening with the E63S engine and suspension. Maybe things will be better with the E53, or maybe not. I personally wouldn't take the chance, but I wouldn't take the chance on a new BMW model with a new power-train either. It's not specific to MB. It's best to give it a year or two.

Thanks...I'll have to check that out. As a back-up, I'm cross shopping a loaded 2019 BMW 540i M Sport. That i6 engine design has been in production for almost a decade now and pretty well vetted. Its almost 100hp short of the E53 AMG, has no air suspension, but is almost $10K cheaper. Still, the E Class AMG is just so enticing.

Yeah, but BMW under-rates these engines... The 540i has a very comfortable ride with the DDC or DHP, so I wouldn't worry about the lack of air suspension. One advantage that the E53 has is the availability of the acoustic package which BMW doesn't offer. By the way, you can get an M550i for the price of the E53, and the M550i is much more powerful, of course.

I certainly hope it will turn out better than what has been going on with the E63S, but I wouldn't bet on it. I would definitely wait at least until the second year of production. Even if nothing major pops up, a few recalls or technical service bulletins are almost inevitable in early production, and who wants to deal with that.
