Text Message Read Out on the Comand Screen

Just learned something new: To start receiving Text Messages (PHONE) on your COMAND SCREEN, please make sure your Bluetooth Device connectivity has the Show Notification button on Green Mode and in the iPhone Notification Main Screen, the Car Icon is turned ON.

And if you click and hold the phone pickup button on the steering wheel for a decent amount of time (until you hear the tone), you'll be able to ask Siri things

.
I have an S9 phone and text message receive/send doesn't require any special configuration other than pairing the phone. When a text arrives a notification beep and icon is displayed. I use voice commands to have the message read. I can I reply via voice as well.

When i had my 2018 E400, no special requirement was necessary. It was activated when your phone (iPhone X) was done. Some how, on our 2019 CLS, this has changed. It never amazes me as to why car manufacturers cannot leave things alone when systems work!!! I have heard this so many times from MB technicians and service managers.

What voice command are you using to have it read and reply? Are you using a MB Voice command or the android version of Siri? I dont think this is possible with iOS unless you activate Siri

Wait a minute, are you guys saying it’s possible to have text messages from an iPhone displayed on the Comand screen?

Yes they can. The configuration issue is not with MB but with iOS updates. When there is an update it (sometimes) changes the setting in iOS turning off notifications. These need to be reactivated. Go to Bluetooth (on the phone), click on the MB pair and then the little i (information) button. This should give you the option to turn Bluetooth notifications on which is the way messages are displayed (and read out by MB/Siri).

this situation is not unique to NB it happens in the same way in manner other makes. It depends on the Bluetooth protocol used.

I use the native COMAND voice commands. I do not use Android Auto.

Thanks, I’m going to try this, would be delighted if this works!
