Headlights getting fogged up
Hello,
I picked up my brand new E450 last week here in Canada. Right from the beginning both headlights were getting foggy when driven in the cold. They would then evaporate as I would park the car indoor. I went back to the dealership to address this concern and was told that “most” of the new vehicles have this problem as they're fitted with LEDs, which doesn’t radiate enough heat. The service guy assured me that this issue will get resolved as I drive 2000-3000 kms (right now it’s less than 500 kms).
Has as anyone been in a similar situation?
Thanks!!

My W212 E250 BT had this exact issue. The problem disappeared within a week. I didn't observe this with my W213 E300W4, but it was a bit warmer when I picked it up. Your headlamps should be crystal clear pretty soon.

This is by design. I called the dealer a few days after getting my new car and they said it is normal. I did not believe it and I insisted that they look the the car. I came down to the dealer and they took my down the lot with all other E Class cars and most of them had fogged up headlights on the inside. Hope that gives you peace of mind and you can go back to enjoying your MB. I do every single time I drive it.

The headlights are are supposedly vented from what I hear.

Everytime time the vehicle is washed the headlamps fog up. It disappears after a while but it is ugly for a premium brand.. not a good image. Logged a call with Mercedes Benz SA but no response to date. The vehicle is fitted with intelligent lights ( Led). Dealer tried to fix the problem without success.
i think only solution is to replace the headlamps

There are breathers inside the headlights to allow moisture to escape. If you didn’t have them the plastic could crack from temperature changes. It’s normal, my car does it too.

Preface, I work in the residential and commercial glazing world. I appreciate that there is venting to allow the vapor to evaporate, but just like in insulated glass that has seal failure, when the fog appears it will leave behind sediment. It may not be noticeable at first, but over years it will turn glass cloudy. That is why people will have windows replaced saying the glass is cloudy. That is calcium and other sediments that moisture left behind.
I do not see any way of these vented headlights preventing this sediment buildup over years.
