2019 E450 Cabriolet and 2019 E450 Wagon.
Anyone had any luck getting Benz to help out with new tires?

Not happy at all with these Goodyear Sport Run flats. My wagon with the luxury package rides like a truck. I know the Michelin Primacy 3 will ride much better. My argument is Benz should not be putting these Sport tires on a luxury package car. I can see the amg line or something with these tires. They do handle better than a tire with a softer sidewall but on this car I want soft thatís why I bought it. Not like iíll Be doing the 24 hour lemans anytime soon. Iím hoping the dealer will cut me a break changing these out for the Michelinís at the 10k service. Like maybe pro rate them or give me the Primacys at cost. Anyone tried this or had any luck in getting the dealer to help out. Iím tired of paying for the mistakes of car manufactures. The Goodyear sports should not be on a luxury car. Even my e450 amg line cabriolet has the Michelinís I guess itís a random process what tires Benz puts on cars. Iíd even be happy if it had the pirelli cinturados. I could even see if they put the Goodyear sports on amg line cars. Just not the luxury package cars. Very strange.

I dig that you started your own thread for this. I recently read in an email, "like my ma used to say, if you don't ask, then the answer is no."

Keep us posted.

I think a lot of people donít realize how much better their cars can ride with the proper tire selection. My e450 Cabriolet rides like a S class and thatís the lowered amg line stiffer suspension. The Michelin Primacy 3 tires obviously are making a big difference. My luxury package E450 wagon rides just a little better than my lowered sport suspension Chevy Colorado pickup truck. I just want to address this issue before I get the wagon back up north for the summer from Florida. Florida the roads are so smooth itís not as big a deal.

Come on now, don't go exaggerating how bad northeast roads are compared to southeast roads.

Yep thatís one reason i got rid of my AMG. Made no sense. Worse come to worse Iíll just buy the new tires and try to see if I can get anything for the Goodyearís from a used tire place. Just trying to avoid going through that and hauling around the old tires. Might not even be worth the aggravation. Best deal I find on the primacy 3 245 40 19 is 269 and thatís at Walmart. Worst case Iíd hope the mb selling dealer would at least match that. My appt is mid April. Should be hitting around 10k miles then. Tire Rack is 294 each. These tires are not cheap but I like them so much on the cabriolet that itís worth it.

Those lane dots are the biggest hazard on most Florida roads. Whoever invented them was evil.

2018 E400 Wagon
Sadly, not everyone can even tell the difference. On our minivan, it was time to replace the factory run flats and I went with Michelin Primacy non run flats. Night and day difference in sound and ride quality. I’ve not put enough miles yet to be sure about the fuel efficiency, but it was well worth it just for the ride quality. My wife claims to not being able to tell the difference.

My 2018 E400 wagon has 19” Pirelli Cinturados and they’re better than I expected. I’m supposed to replace my wagon with a 2019 e450 wagon tomorrow and I wonder what the factory put on it.

Why are you upgrading so soon? The engine or something else?

Zero vehicle problems. The sales folks talked me into this one they had while I was shopping for an e wagon. It wasnít equipped quite like I wanted, but over several weeks they convinced me Iíd be happy with it. We also couldnít find one quite like I wanted around the country. I was told they couldnít order at that time (last summer). Well, after about a month I realized I really did want all the bells and whistles. I am taking quite a haircut on this, but I ordered exactly what I think I want. I plan to keep it ďforeverĒ anyway so the extra cost Iíll forget about eventually.

You will be glad you did the deal and got the 2019, there were a lot of improvements in that one model year. If the wagon you are getting tomorrow does have the Goodyear Sport tires you may want to ask that they be changed out for a tire like the Primacy 3 or the Cinturados as the Goodyears are way too stiff.

hey merc... did you get the car with michellen or did you have to buy them after? I could only order my car with summer tires .. NETSTAR wouldnít let the order go through with all-seasons. So I had to spend another $1500 on all season tires two months after I took delivery of the car. All I was offered was continental run flats. The ride is ďokĒ but not stellar.

I did notice something interesting... the time, before last, I took it in for an adjustment, they filled the tires to 34 all around which is what the gas cap label says. After I took it in last week to fix the dead air scarf, they had changed all four tires to 32. The ride is SO MUCH smoother now but Iím concerned the tires are under inflated and will cause other problems.

Obviously theyíre different tires but at what pressure to you keep yours?

Your car says 34 cold all the way around? Mine says 32 or 33. Interesting. Anyway, I either fill them up cold and then recalibrate the TPS, OR I add 5% ( 2 lbs up to 34-35) if they are warm.

Iím at 37 all around Cold. Was at 34 but someone said sometimes putting more air in the run flats helps. Donít notice any difference. The Goodyear sports are just a real stiff tire.

I keep my tires at 32į @ 70į(cold). I notice that after driving 2 miles the pressure is up to 37į @ 100į all around.

Your Mom was wise. The only dumb question is the one you don't ask.

Seems to me designers and engineers could have fitted a compact spare in a car as large as E class. So there must be other reasons for the decision not to. And it may be our fault, at least in USA, due to consumer's preference for wheel and tire appearance over comfort.

i originally got my e300 with Hankook Tires, I have contacted the CAC about odd vibration issues and they were willing to give some type of discount if I purchased 4 new tires. Considering the dealership is usually more expensive not sure how much the discount would have really helped out... long story short they will not just swap tires out for you as they are still MB approved tires.

If there is some type of warranty issues, that's a different story.

It pays to check around for tire prices. I just purchased a set of Conti Extreme Contact Sport tires for my daughter. A local Hyundai dealer had the same price as Tire Rack (delivered), but they also had a buy 3 get 1 for $1 promotion. Installation including road hazard coverage was $35 per tire. (One could have them installed elsewhere.) Dealers here are quite competitive and cost about the same as a typical tire store such as Tire Kingdom.

Again, there is nothing more maddening than not getting the choice of wheels and especially tires on a newly ordered car. I was lucky that the rf's I got have been great so far. The Pirelli Cinturato P7 18" RFT tires

However, that doesn't excuse the fact that I should be able to determine if I want conventional or rf tires on a car; at least give me a choice on the brand!

They would not allow you to order the car without run flats though as there is no spare and jack. I think the reason benz did it this way is they know most people never use their spare and jack and it was to save them money at the expense of a worse ride.

I did that as well. We got a 2018 E300 and 2018 E400, even though I had actually ordered a 2019 E450. I thought I'd be happy. I wasn't. My partner who was driving the E300 took the E400 and when the E450 finally was built and shipped, we traded the E300 towards it. I took a hit, but I'm so glad I did. I got exactly what I wanted and my partner got a better car in the deal as well.

sometimes itís worth it to take a loss to get what you want. I took a bath on my 2018 amg wagon. Like a 20 grand loss. Still came out 20 grand ahead going from that to the 2019 e450 wagon do at least it did not sting as bad. I like the diamond white better than the cardinal red too and I get about 10 mpg better and plenty of power. I was nervous about a big ticket too in the Amg. That car was just too fast lol.

Life's too short to wish you had gotten exactly what you wanted (and in my case had actually ordered).

It isn't just MB; it's the majority of auto makers now. It really has nothing to do with benefiting us. It's cheaper for them not to include a spare tire and jack. Plus the tire manufacturers love rf's because once they get a nail, cut, whatever, they virtually non-repairable. Forcing the consumers into buying another tire.....4 tires if you have an awd. You know auto makers are getting incentives from the tire companies to push these rfs over conventional.

ya thatís what I was saying. Going to the run flats was not a good thing. In my case though Iím scared to be without the run flats. Thereís no way Iíd be changing a flat on the side of the road. When I was younger I actually did it out of a wheelchair. Those days are gone 61 now.
