2018 E400 Wagon
noisy ride/tires?
I have a 2018 e400 wagon with the 19 inch amg line wheels and dynamic suspension. The run flats on the car make a lot of noise, harsh ride, and at over 80 miles an hour, i hear a pitch of a tuning ford coming from the rear end. Any people have the same problem? Coming from 4 BMW's and a 05 c230 in the last two years, this is the first time I have had this type of situation. Taking it to the dealer tomorrow, but wanted to see if anyone with the wagon had the same problem.

What tires do you have? if it's the goodyear sports that what I have and I hear a noise over 80 and get slight vibrations and the tires are very stiff and do not ride well. A tires swap should take care of the situation. I want to stay with a run flat as it could be the difference between being flat bedded and making it to a repair facility for me so I'm going with the Michelin Primacy 3 Run Flats, have them on my 2019 e450 cabriolet and it's a night and day difference between them and the goodyears. The cabriolet drives like a S class.

I have the 20" wheels on RFTs with standard suspension and I've not heard any noises as you describe. You're doing the right thing by going to the dealer on this. Please let us know how you get on.

I have Pirelli P Zero 20" RFT and they are rough riding and noisy. I'm very disappointed. However, my wife's E43 has 19" RFT all season tires and the ride on her car is good and the tires are not noisy. Both cars have air suspension.

What really seems to make the most difference in ride and noise is whether the tire is more of a touring all around tire or more of a agressive sport tire which I believe is done for better handling. My wagon actually stays more flat in high speed cornering than does my Cabriolet, you don't feel the tires rolling over as much in corners on the wagon. On the other hand the wagon rides harsh and noisy and the cabriolet quiet and smooth. I'd take the sacrifice in handling. Again I'm surprised that MB uses the Goodyear sport tires on cars other than true sports cars, they ride way too rough and can feel every little imperfection in the road. Even though the Michelin Primacy 3 tires on my Cabriolet are run flats they ride very nicely and are very quiet, night and day difference over the Goodyear sport tires.

I also have the Pirelli Cinturato P7 18" RFT tires on my E450 CAB, and they are very quiet and ride comfortably; even at over 80 MPH. Very impressed and pleased with them and I'm not a rf fan!

I have the regular P7 Cinturato's 18 inch on my sport pickup truck, I was trying to do all I could to get a better ride, it did help but the pickup is still very tightly sprung and rides bad. I've been happy with them they have around 30k miles and still look good. If you look at the reviews on tire rack though of the P7 run flats looks like a lot of people are complaining about bad tire wear. https://www.tirerack.com/survey/Surv...D44YR9CP7XLMOE They do have a very low wear rating as does the Michelin Primacy 3 tires, but that's fine with me if they ride well and are not noisy.

Another owner with the Pirelli Cinturato P7 19" and they're nice and quiet at speeds all the way up to and past 80mph. It's so easy to go 80+mph in these cars and I've not had any pitch fork type sounds at all.

i couldn’t get the wagon I brought home to do it either, but traffic conditions limited the time I could spend at higher speeds.

As a follow-up, I drove my wagon to trade-in today. It was about 180 miles, so I intentionally got it up to 80mph (and variations around 80mph) to see if any particular speed would induce a ring or tone. Nothing happened.

I have primacy 3 19 inch, and on the rough roads in Sweden they are kinda noisy. Our asphalt has no holes but because of the harsh weather and widespread use of studded tyres the roads are very coarse and makes most cars noisy (tyre roar from the vibrations caused). Also the car has more wind noise than expected (no acoustic package)

2018 E400 Wagon
Update
Dealer shop foreman took it for a drive with me, kicks in at 78 mph. faint noise until 78+ and the sounds comes through. Claims it isn't the tires, it is the wind and something under the car maybe loose? Car has 800 miles on it, slightly disappointed, but dropping it off next week for 3-4 days. will update soon.

My 2019 E53 came with Continental Procontacts on 19" wheels. I only have 650 miles, but I took it up to 80 yesterday out of curiosity from this thread. No noise as described here. I am actually pleased at these tires as I had heard some pretty adverse comments on the RFT's, but right now I am thinking I will stay with these tires.

You've got the right tires on your car. The 19" on the 53 are all season. They last and are quiet. The 20"s are summer only, don't last and are noisy with a very hard ride. I wish I had 19"s on my car.

I have 19 inch snow tyres that arent runflats and they are still kinda noisy, marginally quieter than my primacy 3 rf. Coarse roads where I live which make all larger rims noisy

I have Pirelli Cinturato P7 that are also very quiet. I'm due for replacements this week. After checking availability (it sucks) for Continental, Michelin and Pirelli run flats I decided to switch to non-RF tires. I talked to Group O who handles marketing logistics for Michelin in the US and they indicated that Michelin is no longer making run flat tires. So right now I'm looking for a compact or donut spare. The tire is easy to buy, but the wheel is almost impossible to find especially in an 18" size.
