I think it's oil and oil pressure related. I have never heard that sound when the oil was cold or not fully warmed up.I also think that in that range of rpm without foot on the gas, the engine has low oil pressure, that's why it knocks and stops immediately when putting leg back on the gas. But I may be wrong.
