Tire Sidewall Damage

Atlanta is a city rife with potholes. Hit some sort of horizontal linear pothole Wednesday evening and noticed this tear on passenger rear tire just this evening. Car is E450 delivered early April. No appointments available at dealer tomorrow but plan to arrive when they open. Hopefully they will work me in. Looks like a must replace to me. I bought a wheel & tire protection plan but may be just the tire & should be covered under warranty. 🤞🏻

That’s why I added the wheel and tire insurance too on Wednesday when we picked up our new one (I never considered it but after I saw the price it was a no brainer to add it). That looks like a big pot hole that did that also. Luckily I’ve never messed one up that bad. Good luck!

More than likely you have a bent rim too if it did that to the tire. Those sidewalls on those tires are super stiff. That looks like a Goodyear Eagle Sport tire and I pulled mine off because they were so stiff and rode horrible. Have them check the rim carefully for a bend when they have have tire off and maybe see when they mount the new tire if they can put it in the Road Force Balancing machine if they have one to make sure everything is ok. If that was a front tire you may want to check the rear on the same side to see if that is bent or out of balance and make sure there is not tire damage on that one. Visa/Versa if it was a rear tire as the front woulda gone over the bump first more than likely. Hopefully your alignment is ok to. These big potholes and reek havoc on cars. It would be a shame to put a new tire on a bent rim and then have the car shake after. If the rim is bent unlikely they can fix it in house as most dealers have a guy come in at certain times to do rim repairs. Good luck.

Update: I was in the dealership at 8 and out at 9:30. Got the last tire in stock. No wheel damage. All covered by Wheel and Tire Guarantee. Great service.

Thanks for the tip. The replacement tire was manufactured about 20 something weeks prior to original tires. All made in 2018 Germany.
