My first MB Service @ 30K

When I bought this car I was told about the expensive Mercedes maintenance, so I was dreading it. Being a gearhead I looked into what the 30K maintenance was and decided to do it myself.

I ordered a Mann Oil filter, cabin filter and air filter from Rockauto for about $30. These are the same brand Mercedes uses as OEM. I bought 2 5 quart jugs of 0-40W Mobil One from Wallymart, $22.50 each. I was in about $75 in parts.

I have an oil extractor that I use on my Jetski, so in using that I was able to pull the old oil out in about 10 minutes. The oil filter came out very easy and went back in in about 10 minutes. Fill the oil up with about 7.5 quarts. Pull the air filter and swap, <5 minutes. Change the cabin filter, 10 minutes due to not being able to figure out how to get the housing back on immediately. General inspection of the fluids, check over the belt and hoses, battery cables, make sure everything is cleaned up and I even gave the hood hinges a small shot of white lithium grease.

I did a brake inspection next, that took about 30 minutes due to having to lift the car and remove each tire.

All in all, everything took about an hour and cost about $75 in parts. Next oil change I will only need one jug of oil.

These cars are not anything special maintenance wise, very easy to work on and pretty logical as far as where things are situated. The biggest difference for me was extracting the oil through the dipstick hole, first ever oil change not getting underneath the car. If you follow the maintenance list they provide in the glove box, it's very easy to service these cars yourself if you don't mind a little work to save at least a few hundred dollars. As long as you keep the receipts and write down the mileage, you're still 100% in compliance with the required service for your warranty.

Don't forget to mail in for the $12 Mobil 1 rebate on a 5 quart jug of oil. So you can get another $24 back so your total cost would be $51 in parts. Limit of 4 so you can still get 2 more before September 30th. And yes the rebate works on Walmart even though they're not listed.

The one-year service on my 2018 E400 Coupe at my local dealer cost $288.22 including the update of the computer system, several cups of coffee, and about a dozen free donuts.

.
The A service on my 18' E300 including software updates on all the cost $161.99 at my MB dealer. (An Autumn service special.) They also updated the controllers (COMAND, navigation, engine, transmission) and replaced weak front door hinges. The whole process took a few days. IIRC I had an S Class dealer demonstrator rather than a C or E Class loaner.

2018 S560 and 2019 E450 Wagon.
Those are good prices, a lot of guys have paid over 400 bucks easily. The dealers make a lot of money in their service departments.

My Toyota dealer has written on the courtesy vans “service sells our cars”. There are many different ways to read that.
