This morning while scrolling through the Service Menu Screen (Left Side), I decided to check the Oil Level Indicator and surprise: One Qrt Low. I went back up and checked to see if there was any Messages on the Screen and None was found. Now, with all the bells and whistles that MB puts on car lately and there are many, you would think that a quart of oil low would be sufficient in my opinion to alert you of this event. I went to my dealership and had them put a quart in. I guess the notification chime will be an $1,000 option on the next models for MB. First time I ever had to add oil on any Benz i have owned. It appears that this new engine runs a bit "hot" and will consume a bit of oil during its lifetime. I had checked the oil at about 3,500 miles and it was ok. I asked my service advisor and he confirmed that this engine may require some added oil at times between services.
You don't say how much mileage is on the car now, but that is not all that unusual if it's over 5K miles, I think the alert does not come up till it's a couple quarts down. 1 quart down is not all that bad given how much oil the pans hold. You probably know this already but just make sure when you activate the gauge that you're on level ground.

6600. Having worked for MB for a few years in quality control I am familiar with the engine oil measurements and practices.
My concern was for the notification of other drivers or owners as to how the system works. Thanks.
Your thread made me check my car. Oil is still showing OK but is just barely above minimum at 7200kms or 4464 mi. The gauge is green below minimum line, not orange. I wonder if the car was at max when I got it because this would be the first time I add oil in an MB before the first service.
