Ticking noise outside while driving
I looked for any rocks stuck in the tread of the tires and didn’t find any that were protruding. Just had my first Service A yesterday and asked them to take a look at the tires and the wheels while the car was up in the stirrups.
They said the found nothing wrong (go figure) and they gave me a cockamamie “possible explanation” that I’m hearing the advanced fuel injector. That it will make a ticking noise and that the ticking pace matches the speed of the car.
I call BS. I find it hard to believe MB makes a fuel injector that deliberately makes noise outside the car.
But... I figured I’d post here on the 1 in 1,000,000 chance everybody comes back and tells me it’s normal
MB service looked at it and changed brake rotors but didn't remove the sound. Now they are saying it is a "normal" noise when they test drove another E450 Cabriolet. We asked to to test drive that car but it is unavailable because it is sold.
I can't imagine MB has purposefully created a ticking part on a convertible!

Obviously rhetorical question.
Of course a ticking sound is not normal. Glad that the dealer has acknowledge the sound. Most of the time they deny hearing it.
In any event, depending on how much the sound bothers you and how much time you want to put into it, I would take my car back to the dealer, get a loaner and tell them to call you when they have eliminated the sound.
Failing that a call to your regional MB would be in order.
