Advice for purchasing a new E-class estate wagon
Hello. I'm interested in acquiring a new E-class estate wagon, and will probably need to factory order due to my safety and comfort specifications. For those who have previously purchased a new factory ordered estate, not off the dealer's lot and not leased, what should I reasonably expect in terms of a pricing discount?

I'm doing the same thing. My local dealer gave me 8% off without any quibbling. But another dealer just across the state line, when talking to the manager, is giving me 12%. Going to go order tomorrow.

Hi. Thanks for your reply. Just want to be clear. Are the discounts you're getting for a factory order car or one off of the dealer's lot? Regards, Steve

Factory order. Getting good discounts, locally at least, appears to be a crap shoot. Like I said, my local dealer immediately offered 8%, and I don't think that's a bad deal. Dealer 80 miles or so away, talked to one "manager", who said they'd go with TrueCar pricing on stock cars (about 5%), wasn't interested in discounting ordered cars. A month later, I talked to a different manager there, and he was willing to give me 12% off (employee discount) "to get my business." Going to confirm everything tomorrow, set the price and put money down on the order.

Thanks. The discounts you're getting are really good. If you don't mind, could you please say state are you located in? I live in Central NJ.

Sent you a PM. I'm in South Carolina. You should do well in your location. Just gotta get the right dealer (easier said than done).

Yes, 12% is a screaming deal, IMO. I just got 11% off in early August and I was very happy with that.

When I ordered mine last year, the local dealer said they don’t discount custom orders. I got about 5% off for one on the lot a few months earlier at the same dealer. I went to a dealer 180 miles away and they would only discount $2k. I’m sort of kicking myself for not doing European Delivery.

Just returned from ordering my new baby:
2020 Mercedes-Benz E450 Estate Wagon
Luxury Styling with 18" Twin 5-Spoke Wheels.
Diamond White Metallic.
Macchiato Beige & Yacht Blue Nappa Leather Interior
Burl Walnut wood trim
Premium Package
Exterior Lighting Package
Parking Assistance Package
Driver Assistance Package
Heated & Ventilated Front Seats
Head-Up Display
3-Zone Climate Control
Acoustic Comfort Package
Wheel Locking Bolts
MSRP: $83,150. Sales price: $73,172
So far, no mention of special order fee of $250, even though DOG says Acoustic Comfort Package requires it.
Production to complete mid-November, with delivery to dealer first half of December.
Decided against the Active Multicontour Seats & Massage (tried the massage, don't think we'd use it), the Sun Protection Package (too much for 2 pull-up shades) & Heated Rear Seats (we can pre-heat car, and we live in South Carolina, so...).
We're thrilled, and can't wait until we get our new Christmas present!

Thanks! Dealer had an E450 Cabriolet in Lunar Blue Metallic with the Macchiato Beige & Yacht Blue interior, and while my wife had nixed the combination before, she fell in love with it when seeing it in person. Yeah, I think it will look nice with the Diamond White. Only thing I preferred on the Cabriolet was that floor carpet and mats were in blue as well, which would be easier to keep clean, while this combo with the Wagon has beige carpet and mats. I'm going to be looking for some "tweedy" look blue-ish mats to replace them with, if it looks okay.

May your delivered vehicle exceed your expectations.
Now we get to see how well you handle the wait. I’m a patient guy, but the last couple weeks before mine was delivered was brutal. Especially because the dealer couldn’t get good tracking info. I got a call that my wagon was on a boat headed across the pond and then a week later told it was on the dock in Germany waiting for a boat. If I had hair I would have had less at delivery.

Does the European delivery scheme exist anymore? That automatically shaves off some 8% or so of the MSRP. If that is available, then I would seriously consider it an club it with a vacation to Europe.

There's a European delivery subforum. You normally get 7% off MSRP but depends on the model. AMG might only be 5%. You also don't pay the destination charge which could be another 1k in savings. I think some have reported getting a discount as high as 12% off on European delivery, but if you can get 12% off in the US, then you're only really saving the 1k on the destination charge.

I got 10% off MSRP on a factory order on a 2020 E450 wagon earlier this week after collecting bids from 9 dealers in the Carolinas. The range of discounts was from 0 to 10%, with most in the 5-7% range. It does pay to call around, extend your geographical search area and talk *directly* to a sales manager. Costco auto program did not have any dealers in my search area.

10% sounds great! Hopefully the dealer won't play games on the back side with fees, etc, our low trade-in price (if you are selling your existing car to the dealer). For me, I ask for a comprehensive out-the-door quote, inclusive of all charges. I further define this to them as the amount of money I would need to inscribe on the check I write to drive the car off the lot (just in case the dealer doesn't know what out-the-door means). Got 5 quotes for a factory build 2020 E450 estate.

Out the door pricing is the best way to work a deal. If ordering a car, make sure to include a right to inspect the vehicle and the right to refuse delivery with a full refund of any consideration.
