I have MB E coupe 2018, I have a problem with my Microphone when I call someone (iPhone, same on cable same on Bluetooth), I have drop-outs... So someone can hear me really well for a few seconds and after that almost nothing...
I made recording on voice memo to test it... And yes, everything is okay for few seconds, and after that nothing, and back to normal, and again nothing....
This is the first description I’ve found that exactly describes what happened to me . I also have a 2018 e400 coupe. Did you ever fix it or find a solution?

No, I didn't fixed. I had big fight here in Mercedes-Benz Serbia, they sold me new mics, but is still not woking. But few days ago I saw that calls and mics are okay when I use CarPlay, so the problem must be with the software. I think in Mercedes Benz they tried to restart my software, but didn't helped. Not sure what can be next step.
MB forum members, has anyone solved the problem with the drivers microphone as I am struggling with it on my W213 . It was replaced in an authorized service center but without success, the passenger works great and the drivers can barely hear me. Give me a solution if you know. Thank you in advance for your reply.
Been reading through the threads for my 2018 E63s. I see the common issue like mine of the drivers microphone unexpectedly cutting out and going dead. I have others on the line say it sounds like I am underwater or far away (I think that's because the passenger microphone is picking me up, it works fine).
However, has someone found the microphone fix? or figured out what to tell Mercedes for them to fix it properly?
With what I've read it seems to be 100% software sometimes even to the point of damaging hardware. Kinda at a loss because Mercedes of Seattle wants to charge me $400 to just play around with it, they are preemptively convinced it is a bad microphone. Sigh

So youre saying you dont have a problem with people hearing you when you use the car play hook up for your car?
started after the command was updated (to fix another issue).
It's not just the phone, also comand no longer registers my voice commands when I speak in a normal voice.
dealer changed the microphone, but does nothing.
surely it has something to do with the FW update? - But how to fix the issue if I'm already on the latest FW..?
Mine is doing the exact same thing! People can barely hear me on hands free. I haven’t been able to use it since I bought the car. What did they end up doing?
Sounds like the software update is not the solution but only the change out the radio unit. This really sucks since there seems to be a problem in the software itself.

Hey guys - I’ve had this same issue. iPhone 14 Pro. I fixed it by resetting network settings on the iPhone. Have you guys tried that?
I was also told my apple with trying to reset location and privacy settings.
The issue has been mainly with my 2019 C43 but I also experienced it on my 2019 CLA250.
Also has anyone found benefit from cleaning or changing the microphone ? Reading the threat it seems like it’s not really been the issue
2019 E300 - Same issue. Tried 3 different phones (Pixel/Apple/Samsung) I don't think my problem is a phone Network setting problem. I'm concerned changing out the radio unit is a temp fix, because what if it updates again? AND.... if it is a FW problem causing the unit to go bad shouldn't MB be covering that?
I have solved it! This fixed my W205 C43 mic issues
So this absolutely fixed my mic issues. Essentially there is a bit of plastic behind the microphone cover. I removed it and people now saying they’re hearing me clearly !
easy to do. I’ve attached pics.
1. pull the cover off (located directly above steering wheel, just behind sun visor). Plastic cover
2. in the cover, pull out rubber tab
Plastic cover with the rubber insert removed. White plastic for removing
3. remove white plastic piece
4. reinsert rubber tab into cover Rear of plastic cover and white plastic for removing
5. reinsert cover
couldn’t believe it was that simple.
also, don’t forget to do the one on the passenger side.
This is so cool, thanks for the solution. It’s really kinda stupid to have the white plastics in there. Initially I thought they are some dust protectors or something, but now they just seem like someone just blindly assembled the parts without removing them. YES! My hands-free is working like it should now!! Many thanks @Mottman1 !

I feel like the rubber tab is redundant also so tried with it removed but still once I put the plastic cover on, people tell me it’s muffled. Only seems to be clear without any obstruction.
I might try drilling open the holes on the cover and see how it is.
I’ll order a couple of replacement covers in case I destroy it.
if anyone needs, the part number for the covers is A2138230100
Very odd that it relates to the cover though. The initial issue of audio dropping in and out seems to be completely gone once removing that plastic.
hope you get it resolved soon. Current is my 2nd unit of W213, the first was a 2017 E250 and it never had such issues.

just remembered that when i tried reinstalling the cover, it didnt clip on to the PCB. So I removed the vanity light, put my finger behind the headliner to support. I could have inadvertently aligned the microphone and cover, and hence didnt encounter the muffled issue. Maybe you want to try that out…

I have the same issue in my GLC 2020. My Bluetooth was working fine until last week, but suddenly, the other party on the Bluetooth call was hardly able to hear me. My car is at the dealership right now, and they are saying the Bluetooth microphone is shorted and would need to be replaced. The cost is $ 550+tax in NJ, USA. Now I am wondering if the issue is with the plastic covering, then how come the voice was transmitting earlier correctly to the other party without any issue and now if we remove this, it should be fine. Please help suggest urgently.

Just an update from my earlier posts. So far, after removing the white plastic film, everything is working great. It’s apparent that the mic is unusually sensitive, who would have known that the film alone can cause so much issue. At $550 before tax, I suggest that you try use a blower to try clear the cover first and see if that helps.

I'm not sure I agree. I removed the white plastic piece. I also believe MB pushed an update over the weekend. People can hear me now as long as I am moving. If I stop for any reason the person on the other end can't hear me until I start moving again. Something changed that caused a lot of people to suddenly have issues, and I doubt it is a small plastic piece that was there all along.
I've had this problem for several days and people have said they can hear my voice when I speak louder on call. I did the same method of removing the plastic and it did the trick. What I am confused is, I study acoustics (PhD), and such a small piece of plastic that thin should not have interfered with the microphone at all. What is so confusing to me is that people have been getting this issue all of a sudden. Either MB rolled out an update that interferes with this microphone cover, or maybe the plastic melted during the high heats it covered the holes for the speaker. But removing the plastic worked for me.

I am having this problem as well with my 2018 E300 -- $550 plus tax (and I am in NJ also) -- and no warranty coverage. Thanks for all the potential fixes! Will try ASAP.

Now that seems like a possibility. We've had a massive heatwave here in NJ lately. This has got me thinking.
