Question hands-free problems (people can hardly hear me)

People can hardly hear me when i'm on hands-free.

started after the command was updated (to fix another issue).

It's not just the phone, also comand no longer registers my voice commands when I speak in a normal voice.

dealer changed the microphone, but does nothing.

surely it has something to do with the FW update? - But how to fix the issue if I'm already on the latest FW..?

I'm in a pickle here.. Dealer does not know what to do to solve the problem.
Clearly it's something on the car's end, since voice commands have nothing to do with the phone..
would re-doing the FW be a possible solution?
any input wil be highly appreciated, as right now I can not use my hands-free at al

If they have not already done so, suggest they contact MB technical assistance.

Also check the volume compensation settings in the dealer menu.

they now also changed the right microphone , but this changed nothing
the pic then checked & found there was a new update for comand (4.8 I think)
update was carried out, but can't say it's doing much.
I'm at a loss & dealer also doesn't know what else to do ...

sorry to bump this, but is there nobody who had similar issues?
it's a big problem as basically I can't call anybody from the car, unless I scream from the top of my lungs...

car stayed at dealer for 2 days, but they can't figure out what's wrong.
measurements do show that the "recorded" sound is too low and thus this creates the problems with voice command & hands free calls.
a case file has been sent to Mercedes, but my dealer thinks the only fix will be to replace the command system.
car no longer under warranty, so I hope the lease company will take care of the cost...

I hope so to, but I think that would be a first.

radio replaced and problem fixed.

it also fixed the terrible radio reception: I had 3 stations on average (even in the city) and now back to 30+

I have the same issue, but not under warranty, so replacing the radio is likely much too expensive (I am not even sure what constitutes a "radio" in these cars. (2019 W213 E-Class) Also, the passenger side works... so not sure it would be the radio or COMAND unit.

I plan to replace the microphone on the driver side to see if that makes a difference. I thought about swapping the drive and passenger Mics to see if that fixes the issue, but the mics are cheap enough I'll just replace the one on the driver side. If that doesn't fix the issue, then I'll continue the trouble shooting.

OP said replacing the COMAND unit resolved the matter. Have someone pull codes & check for software update using MB diagnostics before replacing parts.

I've done everything, updates, cable checks, microphone replacements... to no avail. something is broken with these command systems

Replacing the COMMAND seems like such a drastic fix... there has to be something... I am guessing a new COMMAND is outrageously expensive.

In my case they tried everything else
I think i mentioned before that it started after a FW update, though might have been coincidence

I’m going to give you the solution: remove the microphone cover.
Just pull the cover, and done: fixed.

thanks, but i don't think this is a solution for everybody.
(In my case the mics worked perfectly fine until an update was done )

Definitely not a solution... the cover has nothing to do with sound quality. I still haven't taken mine to the dealer to be looked at, but will have to at some point. Since I bought it used, I don't know the history of software updates and when this problem started on my car, but I really need to get it fixed.

So I have the same problem as well. It all happened after the latest COMAND update... The MB consensus is that they suggest "changing mic" however that bulletin is more of "deteriorating after use" scenario... For us from my research it seems another "alternate recommended solution" was to get the "sound config" changed via custom SCN Coding (linked to forum post here) however that it a whole different level of can worms. Guess will end up trying that........ Do wish the car was in warranty.

I replaced the Microphone since it was a cheap and easy check, but did nothing... This seems like a fairly common issue. Can the dealer revert or re-update the software to fix this? I do not have the tools or software to do this myself. (nor do I know of anyone who does)

E Coupe
Problem with mic

I have MB E coupe 2018, I have a problem with my Microphone when I call someone (iPhone, same on cable same on Bluetooth), I have drop-outs... So someone can hear me really well for a few seconds and after that almost nothing...

I made recording on voice memo to test it... And yes, everything is okay for few seconds, and after that nothing, and back to normal, and again nothing....
