Wheel Locks
I have 19” wheels on my E450 Wagon and was thinking about buying a set of wheel locks. I’m seeking input on:
1) do they actually deter theft, or do thieves just make more damage trying to remove the wheel?
2) should I buy from the M-B dealer? Amazon advertises a genuine M-B wheel lock set for $91.44.
3) do M-B repair shops have a set of keys in case I lose mine?
4) any reason not to get them?
Thanks!

i did NOT have them on my very 1st mercedes C class and after some i did not only NOT have wheel locks, but also no wheels.
(imagine waking up to that when you want to go to work )
So yes, get wheel locks.
nothing is 100pct theft proof, but it's all about making it difficult for the scum *******s
as far as i remember, the wheel locks at the dealer are not over 80/90 euros, so see no reason to get cheaper aftermark
not sure i they have spare keys, but in the shop it's pretty easy to "drill them out" (is that the right term?) in case need.
for me there's no reason not to get them, just make sue you always have the key with you. i've got mine hidden in the car

Ouch. That is not a pretty sight. I can see why it still hurts.
I once drove up on some guys stealing wheels from a car. It reminded me of hyenas eating at a carcass. They scattered when I turned the headlights on them.
Thanks for the feedback Egonvdv!

Get factory MB locks, the thieves will then go to another car, the locks cone with a code in the package, the steel is hardened so the can't be drilled with usual street tools, if you have code your deal always order a new key, but I can't think of why you'd lose it.

I think having wheel locks saved me on one occasion. I was on the road quite a bit one year with lots of hotel stays. Normally my vehicle is in my a garage at night, but it had quite a few nights outside at these hotels. I went in for some routine maintenance/service and the dealer tells me I’m missing a couple nuts on one wheel and one on another (same side) — the regular nuts, not the special locking nuts. I was shocked at first, wondering how I couldn’t feel what must have been badly out of balance wheels on one side, and then worry at the unsafe condition, followed by anger once I realized what must have happened. At least replacing those wasn’t so expensive. I made sure my next vehicle had the locking nuts.
