Order Canceled

I ordered two compact spare wheels & tires, MB part #213-400-06-00, online from the Mercedes Parts Center website for $376 each. A few hours later they sent me a message canceling the order. They indicated that I had to buy the item from a local dealer that charges a 36% premium ($510 each) for the same part. Not only that, they charged my credit card and said it will take several days to process a refund. The same spare wheel & tire is a $200 option on the GLC 300 with jack, tools, etc.

BEWARE - Do not order parts from Mercedes Parts Center.

Wow, what poor service. Truly sad.

So... What is the purpose of the Mercedes Parts Center then?

They should probably close up altogether. Sucks to work there I guess.

I bought my spare from https://www.mercedespartshub.com

I tried Mercedes Parts Center first, and the web site wouldn't accept my order. I called them up, and they said they couldn't order the spare. I'm surprised the site charged your credit card.

The refund delay seems typical. Somehow, they can take your money instantly. Refunds take a few business days. Funny how that works!

Now I wonder if the "Mercedes Parts Center" is actually owned and operated by Mercedes-Benz? Do we know?

I ended up ordering from my local dealer at $510 + tax each. Thankfully there were no shipping charges added since the order is coming from Germany next week.

I'm going to assume shipping is rolled into that cost?

$510 is the list price whether in stock or shipped from another location.

Did you get the kit with a jack and all? I bought a kit from RoadHero - $395 shipped from the UK with a breaker bar/jack/headlamp/shorter bolts/etc. I have an extra set of shorter bolts, MB jack (I can double check PN's for the three I have), probably a wheel chock as well) - if you're in the market for any of those unless you ordered the kit. Send me a PM if interested.

I did not buy the kit. I already have a generic scissor jack, lug wrench, etc.

I’ve seen that many online MB dealers have web sites powered by RevolutionParts. Their websites are all about the same, but their prices are slightly different. When I search for a dealer part, I’ll check several MB sites and compare prices and shipping costs. Dealers near me (in the same state or close by) usually yield the lowest overall price. One dealer about 2 hours from me uses RevolutionParts. I can order from them and chose pickup, but that’s $20 extra (which was less than the shipping costs). They all still beat my local dealer which does not use RevolutiionParts and charges list or higher for parts.

I’ve used mercedespartscenter with success many times with success. I once called them about hydraulic lines for a wagon which I knew would be difficult to ship. They told me that and recommended that I get locally due to the shipping $.

The compact spare arrived this morning. It must have flown straight into Tampa
It fits nicely in the trunk flat against the back seat and takes very little trunk space.
What surprised me was the 135/70R19 wheel has the exact same revs per mile as my 245/45R18.
The hub is the same thickness as the alloy wheel so it uses the same bolts.
Next up is a set of Pirelli Cinturato P7 All Season Plus II (3594500).

@ua549 - sorry if this question has been covered... Are you using this in your E class? I have a 2017 E300 4matic and have been wanting to get a spare. When you are putting it in the trunk, you said that it fits well which is great news. Is there a cover that you purchased for the tire while it is in the trunk? Thank you so much.

There is a MB cover available that (IIRC) costs $135. I declined that purchase. The spare is in my 2018 E300.

In the same vein, could you show a picture of it in the trunk so we can actually see how much room it takes? Many thanks.

Here is a pic. There is about 18" between the tire and the outside edge of the trunk.

Not as bad as I expected. And jack and equipment can go in cubby below. I think I will head in that direction. Thanks again.
