2017 E Class - Buy or Pass?
Haven't been on here in a while but thought you'd be the best to ask
I'm considering a 2017 E class however conventional wisdom says that you should never buy a first year new model car.
For those of you who own a 2017 now or have recently, I am curious if you have had a good experience with regards to reliability? Would you buy it again?
I am not necessarily looking for a list of problems as there's already a thread on this. I understand there will always be problems but I'm more concerned with the reliability of the 2017 now/today.
I am looking to purchase a 2017 that initially rolled off the dealers lot in Q2 of 2017 with less than 30k miles with CPO. I will put roughly 10k miles on it yearly as it will be my daily driver. My intention is to get an extended warranty after the CPO expires so I can keep the car 5+ years. I have never done so as I generally lease and/or churn through cars every 2-3 years. Even with the peace of mind of the CPO, I don't want to keep taking the car in to get serviced. Is this car for me? I'd appreciate your thoughts. Thanks in advance.

The CPO warranty that comes with the car is one year, but you can get 2 extra years from the vendors mentioned in the extended warranty subforum for less money than whatever the local dealers charge. The CPO warranty will kick in after the factory warranty expires so you should have 4 years of warranty coverage. If you're just going to get rid of it at around 80k, you're probably fine, but if you go much longer, standard maintenance stuff like springs/struts, control arms, ball joints and other suspension components tend to start wearing out after that.

Just my $.02:
Like you I lease for 3 years and 30,000 miles. I see no reason to change: Every three years there are advances in technology and more importantly safety.
Read the posts on this Board with regard to CPO's: it is a Buyer Beware market.

I bought a used E300 in January 2017, It was one of the very early production models. It is fully loaded including the premium 3 package. It now has 60K miles and so far has been relatively trouble free.

Purchased a 2017 in December with 22k. So far so good but reading these forms will make you question life. I went with the 2 year extended warranty, original will expire in July. First Mercedes as have had company car last 9 years and so far absolutely love it. Like you daily driver and will do 10-12k a year. Already thinking about first “B” service cost.

I have a 2017 E300 and love it. Just turned 30K miles on it. No issues but thankful to have a warranty to cover it. If you go with the MB CPO warranty it covers a lot and will surely help shelf any concerns.
