Car not moving when brake pedal released
Car not moving when brake pedal released
Hi
Sorry if this has been asked before. I am occasionally having an issue with parking with my W213 E200 which I hope to get an answer. Many thanks in advance.
During parking, either in D or R gear, the car would normally move slowly as with most auto transmission vehicles. However, I sometimes see it doesnt until I step on the gas pedal. Does anyone know why? Does it have anything to do with the Parktronic function?
Thank you
Ken

happens with me as well sometimes, I guess the engine applies so little power, that even the slightest incline in the road
or wheels that are not in a straight forward position, will prevent the car from moving.

For automatics it is called a Torque convertor that is allowing the engine to slip while tranny does not spin and hence car sits still due to more torque required then engine can produce at those RPM.
Lots of csrs are like this.... try pointing UP HILL and put in drive...

In my E-Class it does the same thing but only when it has just been shifted from Park to Drive. In the instrument cluster you can see that the parking brake stays on until you press the gas pedal. Once you press the gas, at least in my car, the car will roll like normal. I suspect this is some strange Mercedes safety feature that prevents cars from rolling away. Check to see if the parking brake light is illuminated when this is happening, and If it is then that seems to be normal operation for the car.

Are you sure it's not the brake Hold feature? This feature allows you to release the brake without the car moving.
Activating the HOLD function
> Depress the brake pedal and after a short
time quickly depress further until the HOLD
display appears in the multifunction display.
> Release the brake pedal.
Deactivating the HOLD function
> Depress the accelerator pedal to pull away.
or
> Depress the brake pedal until the HOLD display
disappears from the multifunction display.
The HOLD function is deactivated in the following
situations:
* Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC is activated.
* The transmission is switched to position PARK.
* The vehicle is secured with the electric parking
brake.

I have noticed this in my GLC 300d..
sometimes I have to touch the accelerator to get the car moving. It is intermittent and somewhat annoying.
My previous GLC did not behave like this.
In my case it is definitely not the Hold function that is activated.

If I understand what you are experiencing, then yes, in my C238 (W213 Coupe) I have this. For example, backing out of the driveway to the street, brake, switch to drive, it takes a second to engage whether using the gas pedal or just looking to creep forward.

In a slightly different situation, my neighbor has a Ford where the electronic emergency brake on his car would get "stuck" after starting. The dealer replaced wiring or a sensor or something.
