You should receive a postcard from the settlement administrator (eventually). I received mine today.

Yep, that’s why I keep telling everyone to contact MB Corporate and lodge a formal complaint regarding the brake/ shimmering of the car at certain speeds. I also have one in at NHTS. It’s ridiculous that they will not accept responsibility for it

I received my letter in the mail today as well. While I find the air in the cabin to be a bit stale. it by no means is sour like mold. I did have that issue in my Audi. <-- They repurchased that car as it was in many pieces to try and fix the issue. They did not, just know it's an invasive procedure to fix the mold.

That is why we have class actions, and why corporate America hates them.

If they all did the right thing by their customers then there would be no need for them

True, but until that day comes we need an alternative.

True that, however they all don’t do anything until they absolutely have to. I have had 2 lemon lawsuits and a buyback. All because they refused to do the right thing until the were forced to do so and had no chance because of overwhelming evidence

Interesting how it says “when” your a/c starts to smell. They must know it gonna go bad eventually. Must be a bad design.

I dont understand this settlement. Granted, I didn't read all the documentation, but I have never owned a car that didn't have mold/musk smell from the AC. This happens in all cars, when condensation stays in the air vents. I have always gotten around this by turning off my AC about 8 minutes prior to destination, and increasing the air flow and temp to dry out the vents. After that, I have never had a problem with my E class. Anyway, unless the smell is the result of something different than that, I find this lawsuit simply the nature of litigious America.

I've rarely had an issue with mold or musty smells in any car. In Florida the AC runs 95% of the time. That said, I spray Lysol disinfectant into the air intakes during routine maintenance.

Hey, MB should have put that in the owner's manual. It would have saved them a lot of trouble.

why not have a system in place that keeps the fan on for a few minutes after you've exited the car…?

Yes, that would be nice, but I think the REST function is kind of like that? Anyway, I was simply saying that this isn't an MB specific issue, and is a more widespread issue. I dont think any carmaker has a built in solution to this problem and I dont feel that MB should be punished here for something that is industry wide.

From what I have seen, the dealer does an A/C disinfection service:
1- cleaning the evaporator using foam / solution, through the evaporator sensor opening.
2- Ozone generator treatment.
3- replacing HVAC filters
It is believed because the evaporator is placed at straight/ vertical position, moisture styas trapped inaide the fins and doesn't drip down.
Even in our 2019 GLS with less than 6000km. The dealer conducted this repair as the AC started to smell.

Knocking on wood...
I own, or have owned, 5 Mercedes from the list, GL, ML, and 3 E class. None have developed a musky smell (thank goodness). I live in a mostly dry environment so maybe I am just lucky. A/C runs all the time. Even so, I appreciate the extended warranty that would still cover my current rides.

Thank you for the details. The dealer gave me a questionnaire about the odor, etc. before starting service.
