1- cleaning the evaporator using foam / solution, through the evaporator sensor opening.
2- Ozone generator treatment.
3- replacing HVAC filters
It is believed because the evaporator is placed at straight/ vertical position, moisture styas trapped inaide the fins and doesn't drip down.
Even in our 2019 GLS with less than 6000km. The dealer conducted this repair as the AC started to smell.

I own, or have owned, 5 Mercedes from the list, GL, ML, and 3 E class. None have developed a musky smell (thank goodness). I live in a mostly dry environment so maybe I am just lucky. A/C runs all the time. Even so, I appreciate the extended warranty that would still cover my current rides.
