External CD Drive.
We have an external CD drive that we use with the Apple laptop computer. Question: Can we use it in a 2019 E Class by plugging it into one of the USB ports. As an aside, I don't care about the analog clock going away, but I really miss the convenience of a CD drive in the car. It made life much more simple than loading music onto a thumb drive.

Take a walk on the wild side....plug it in and see what happens!
Better still. ...embrace streaming!

A. We did plug it in and it did not power up,
B. The car has Sirius, but the selection of what we want to listen to is very small. One classical channel, and one opera channel, and the quality because of the compression is not to our liking.
The 2012 E had the four disc changer and the 10 GB hard drive. Very enjoyable combination. The dealer was supposed to download that HD for the 2019 and failed to do so. We are now recreating the wheel.

I don't have an E class.....GLC300d ... so not really familiar with the layout.
In GLC the USB beside the cup holder is the one to use as opposed to either of the 2 under the arm rest.

I put all of my music collection on a microSD card that stays in the car 100% of the time. It has about 10,000 tracks that can be easily accessed by genre, album, artist, ...
Yes it took a full day to copy them from CD but once done it sure beats hunting for a particular CD from a bin in the back seat. I also have a backup microSD in case a CD gets damaged. I have no packed the CDs into a box for offsite storage.

I transferred my iTunes library to an SD card. Not my preferred solution but I expect it will work.

The cd is a dead format. Where the vinyl has nostalgia and vintage sound distortion going for it, the cd has nothing... its pure digital and music can just aswell be placed on any other digital media.
so forget about cds :-)

This topic has been discussed alot on the W212 forum. It appears that using the proper format is the issue...

That said, I have thousands of songs on a 64GB SD card... saves space, and works great.

Yes, I was looking for a quick solution to not having a CD drive. I have downloaded the iTunes Music library onto a 64 GB SD card and will now learn how to use it. But I am not giving up my newspaper or hardbacks.

External CD Drive
I have a 256Gb sd card with over 6000 uncompressed items on it. Probably wouldn't have made it if just for the car because I stream a lot, particularly Amazon HD but I also keep a copy in the house to use on whole house system. Huge convenience to play whatever I want, wherever I want with just a few buttons on my phone. Very impressed that the car plays every format that I've thrown at it; am in the process of moving my sister's cd's over to sd but her 2016 Audi Q5 won't recognize flac and must be formatted in fat or fat32. Also limited to 32Gb sd although 2 slots. Tried a 64Gb and 128 Gb and NTSF and absolutely no go

Sorry, I was unclear. I formatted the 64 and 128 in FAT32 but the car didn't recognize the larger size. Tried NTSF also just to see but that was a no-go too. I would guess later Audi's have been updated by now and are much more flexible.
