No Passive Door Lock Feature???

I've been letting this go for a year or so and it's still killing me. On my old Caddy I would drive the car, park, open the door, get out of the car, and walk away. The doors LOCKED THEMSELVES. No touching a handle or anything....Am I missing something about the features of these new benzes? Is there a way to set passive lock? I set my doors to 'Auto lock' but this is only for driving the car and having the doors lock automatically (useless. For Mercedes its rather disappointing that so many featuers that came standard in an old 2015 Cadillac CTS are not even available on these cars...

Like so many things, standard on my 2019 Kia Niro, not available on my 2020 E450 MB. Unfortunately, The Best or Nothing means that many times we get the Nothing.

Try to think of Sgt Schultz's advice on Hogan's Heroes.

I never liked that feature because some relative would lock them self out of the vehicle and have to call a locksmith ot I'd have to rescue them.
I would never buy a car with that feature.

There are a few really dumb features on these cars, one being no auto door lock, the second is the Nav system in which there is no way to see the directions in a list, or choose between several options. Common things on Hyundai's and Fords.

All that said, nice to be having these 1'st world problems considering what's going on these days.

Leave the keys in the console and close the auto-locking door when exiting.
MB detects if a key is in the car and prevents locking the doors. GM, Ford and FCA aren't smart enough to prevent locking one self out of the car.

Or even a memory for favorite locations, other than the stupid Favorites screen which is impractical for more than a couple. On all my other cars, I'd have like 30 destinations saved. This is another NOTHING provided by MB.

After sending them to the nav system from your pc they are shown in the previous destinations list.

Right. Not very convenient. I tried sending several addresses to the car from my phone, and only the latest one was there. So have to send them one at a time, use them, then send another. I want to enter all my addresses, just like you do in your phone, for numbers and such. Imagine looking up a person's phone number every time you call a new person, then all you get is a list of called numbers. We'd never stand for that. And in using navigation systems since the earliest TomToms, this is the first time I've not had a list of addresses that were readily available. On separate nav systems, or on cars. For almost 15 years, every system had the feature. Except the E MB.

Don't you set the automatic sync between your phone and car? Everything in my phone contact is synced with the contact list in the car including addresses.

**edit**
I just returned from a short trip where I checked the contact list navigation function. To route to any contact I pressed the voice button and said "navigate to contact <my contact>". The nav system then set a route to my destination. In addition I was able to see a turn by turn route by using the navigation menu item to select an alternate route.

I had a Buick and a Cadillac that both auto-locked with the key in the car. There are models of FCA, Ford and GM vehicles that are not smart enough to detect a key in the car.

IIRC my Mercedes W211 couldn't tell is the key was in the car either.

But is it that hard to touch handle when walking away tolock doors?
Orclick button on key fob?

Me I would prefer to do some action to lock doors to ensure it happened.

I had both a 2008 and a 2011 Cadillac CTS before purchasing my 2018 E400C. Both of those cars had the auto door lock. In all those years, I had only one locking mishap, and that was at the car wash where the attendant apparently left the engine running when he moved the car to the pickup area where I was waiting for it, then shut the door. I called Cadillac and they were able to unlock it remotely, although I don't believe that would have been possible if the car had been inside the car wash or a garage, etc. (After that I always removed the metal key from the FOB and kept it with me at the car wash or any parking garage, etc.). Do I miss the feature? Not really, although I did for several months after moving to my E400 — I was used to parking, getting out, and walking away from the car, confident that it would lock itself. Took me months to break the habit and remember to click the lock button on the FOB or touch the door handle, and once I retrained myself, I no longer missed the feature.

That depended on whether you had keyless go or not. I have it in both cars and the W211 can tell if you have the key in the car or not. If you didn't have that option in your W211, then it wouldn't be able to tell.

Does a MB auto-lock based on distance or speed?

I believe it kicks in at a certain speed. You can drive slow for a bit and they won't lock. Step on the gas and they lock right away.

Keyless go was not offered in the early W211 models. They used an RF system for remote door unlocking. My W210 used an IR system for door unlocking. Neither car could detect if the key was left in the car. (I typically kept a spare key hidden in the car.

The W211 always had keyless go as an option, but you're right, it was different in the early models. I have the post face lift where it was the regular key fob.
