Just tried charging my iPhone 12 Max Pro in my 2017 E300 and it does not sit correctly on the wireless charging pad. I'm not sure why car manufactures place the wireless charging pads is such a space restricted location.

If anyone else has had any success with the 12 Max Pro, please let me know.

 

The newer models have enlarged the charging pad space. You may be able to get an enlarged insert for the area.
FWIW the charging area accommodated all cell phones at that time (Summer 2016).

Yes, the tray insert changed in 2019. I have a 2018 and it just fits my Galaxy S 9 phone. It can't hold a larger phone.

 

My note 9 with a case has a real hard time sitting properly in the charging tray. I would imagine these new "max pros" are even bigger and would not fit.

 

I have a 2018 E400 Coupe and I just got the new iPhone 12 Pro Max on Friday. I have no problem putting it securely on the wireless charging pad in my car. Even with the slightly larger phone size, it actually seems to fit better than my previous iPhone 11 Pro Max. Note: I purchased a silicon case from a company called Miracase.

 

Hmm, that's interesting, I wonder if the console area is different between the E300 and the E400? I need to do a little more research on this. Or see if the 2019 insert will go into the 2017.

 

The interior differences are between the coupe and sedan, not the engine.

 

let me know what you find out. I have the same issue. 2017 E300 and iPhone won’t fit the charging pad.
