I disagree it’s worthless. Just not as useful as it could be. Some you tube video I saw asked this question. I think on a GLE. He said it stayed on.

It, depends about region i think. Just checked Polish manual which has option to turn on camera when car ignition is on.

Once again it appears that lawyers are involved. While legal to have a dash cam, it is not certain that the video is always acceptable to courts (I don't know about insurance companies). There is concern that videos, like photos, can be easily 'photoshopped'. Has anyone had actual experience with this concern?
The cam apparently costs $200 but requires other options such as Augmented Navigation and more. I don't recall ever seeing a USA car without Premium Package, but it is required as well if you are ordering. Check with your sales person.
So it appears that Mercedes has given us a half-assed version of a dash cam...because!
I found this site for after-market units. Don't know if the brand is sold in USA. See a previous post concerning this type of cam that replaces the mirror cover. AeroWerks used to post in the W212 forum. No idea if they are still around, and/or whether they were the manufacturer or just an installer..
