New owner question
Hello everyone, I'm the new owner of a 2021 e350. I have a question I need your help with. I noticed that the led ambient lighting does not work above the gauge cluster. I checked all the setting and I have the gauge brightness set at 100%. Does anyone have a similar vehicle that can confirm if this is broken or working as designed? I did search the forum and found several ambient lighting problems, but none on a 2021.

I understand your question... If the ambient lighting is supposed to be there and isn't, I would want to understand it myself.
However, I would find the ambient lighting just below my field of vision to be distracting. Color choice more or less so...

Thanks. I had commented on the referenced post also. It seems the light is only below the cluster post face lift. The confusion is that I have watched several post face lift videos and all of them have the led above and below the cluster. I called my salesman and he is off till Wednesday. He is going to check a new 2021 post Fl on the lot. I'll follow up once I hear from him so we all have a definitive explanation. It is possible that the videos on youtube are from cars that were non-US vehicles and they might have different ambient lighting.

This is how it looks in a European basic equipped facelift model. Does the led strips sit behind the display for the light to come through at the top and bottom? Or are there individual strips?

I have a pre-facelift 2020, and while it does have ambient lighting above the LED screens, that section of LED lighting is completely out of my field of vision. I have to scrunch down a heck of a lot to see it, and I did so out of curiosity just to see if I had the lighting or not.
You'd practically have to be in the back seat to have that section of ambient lighting in your line of sight. So, no real loss if they've deleted that section of lighting in the facelift models.

I thought the same thing but one of the ones with upper light is absolutely base, no options. I talked to service and they are going to come pick it up tomorrow and leave me a loner. It's only two weeks old so hopefully they get it figured out.

Update: I received my car back from the dealer today. The consensus is that some 2021 e350's will have the ambient lighting above the display and some will not. If yours was built after 1/1/21 you probably have the upper and lower gauge cluster led's. If you were built before 1/1/21 you possible will just have the led's under the gauges and not over. It makes absolutely zero sense to stock two different clusters for the same year car but that's what Mercedes has done. On a positive note, my loaner had led's about the cluster and because I'm 6'1" I really can't see them when I'm driving. So I guess it's no big deal to not have them, although it's certainly strange .

Interesting post. I'm getting a '21 E 450 Coupe that was built in January and arrives later this month. I'm curious to see of it comes with the above-the-display ambient lighting. Would never have thought of it before.

2018 S560 and 2019 E450 Wagon.
That is strange. I have a 2019 E450 Wagon with the digital dash option and it does have both the upper and lower and they both light up. I always thought it was only the cars without the digital dash option like the 2019 E450 Cabriolet I had with the conventional looking gauges that did not have the upper, mine definately did not.

You are being a bit harsh. Minor product details change occasionally for various reasons including part shortages beyond control of the manufacturer. At one time MB had to build W213 cars with the Premium Package 3 without the LCD instrument cluster due to a parts shortage. When these changes happen, there is a change in the included feature specifications that are listed on the data card. Purchasers should always view the data card to be certain of what they are purchasing. The bottom line is "Do not make assumptions."
