Tyre choices

This may be a stupid question and my apologies if it is but I am buying an E220d AMG Line and the tyres are the standard 245/45 R19 on the front and 275/40 R19 on the back. I wondered if it is possible to change these for 225/55 R17's front and back? What, apart from cost would be the benefit if it is possible and what are the negatives?

The brakes on the amg line might be too big and need 18s to clear. I believe on the luxury line you can fit 17s.

From 19 to 17s you should get a smoother ride, from 19s to 18s, should be slightly noticeable especially with fresh set of tires and if you get more of a touring type. Benefit would come from having more rubber, so possibly less chance of getting rims bent. But whether 19s or 18s most of us are getting bent rims from OEM MB rims, also due to the run flats having such hard sidewalls.

So would it be a reasonable idea to replace run flats?? difficulty in fitting a space saver anywhere in the boot I suppose??

AMG Line/Sport package only with 18" wheels due to larger brake calipers

I have e350 e hybrid. It came with bigger caliper and I also have the AMG Line package.

The original AMG wheels are 18 inch but for the front wheels it is already tight, I don’t think you can fit 17 inch there.

I would recommend to downsize to 18 and get non runflat tires for comfort. Also don’t use 50 ratio tires as it won’t fit in the wheel well with 18 inches wheel. Use 45 ratio tires in front and rear if you have same width for front and rear wheels on 18 inches.
