Buying my friend's E300 soon, any tips?

thanks for looking out! I am ready for more the expensive maintenance bills. I just can’t afford to cough up 10k when the the engine or tranny ****s the bed

I believe he might be able to buy the extended Mercedes warranty which is 7years and either 75k or 100k coverage. Basically almost the same as the CPO warranty as the CPO comes with one year and you can get 2 extra years. But CPO is unlimited miles. You can check for vendors mentioned in the extended warranty subforum. Not sure if it's better for his friend to buy it and then transfer it or if he should buy it afterwards. Probably about the same price and I'd take the MB warranty over some unknown 3rd party warranty any day. You never know what the exclusions are on a 3rd party warranty, either they exclude a lot of coverage, require inspections, have deductibles, go out of business, deny claims, have limits on coverage, take a while to approve items etc.

Right, the factory warranty is 4 years 50k so it sounded like he'd be under 50k, but looking at the vin, it's a 9/2016 production date so unless it sat on the lot a long time, it's probably past the 4 year mark at this point so only way to get an MB warranty would be if it was turned into the dealer and the dealer sold it to the buyer with the CPO warranty. Otherwise it'd have to be those aftermarket warranties which I'm not a fan of, I don't think he mentioned the warranty company, there's a few out there that are ok, but the dealers tend to push the ones that have the most profit for them, not the ones that are best for the buyers.
