I know its not the physical sunshade that is broken because for the past year, I have noticed that the button on the center console would not activate to close or open the sunshade, but then will work again randomly after restarting the car. Now it has completely stopped working for the past week. Any ideas or easy things to check? Car is out of warranty.
Since these aren't simple 12V switches, you need to verify whether the appropriate module is "seeing" the switch input. Then proceed accordingly. About all you can check is fuses and wiring integrity. People love checkign them... rarely are they an issue. Personally I'd invest the resources into an appropriate scanner as it'll be beneficial in the future.
Worst case scenario rear SAM or shade motor may be intermittently malfunctioning. As suggested always best to pull codes but not sure any will be stored in this case. Here is wiring to check shade & rear SAM if so inclined to do so.
